WILLIAMSBURG, VA, - Women's track and field sophomore Mary Gregory was named the William & Mary Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Tuesday.
Gregory earned the honor after an exceptional performance over the weekend at the Virginia Challenge Apr. 21-23. She set a school record in the 400-meter dash and played a pivotal role in breaking the school record in the 4x400 meter relay.
The sophomore's time of 54.81 broke a school record that has been untouched for the last 13 years. In the event, Gregory recorded a personal best and finished first in her group. Gregory now holds the school record in the event for both outdoor and indoor.
The Reston, Va., native continued her reign as one-fourth of the 4x400 relay team. With contributions from sophomores,
Carly Swierbut,
Grace Bir, and freshmen
Emily Ervin the team broke their own school record, finishing third overall in the event. With a combined time of 3:40.84, the group shaved nearly two seconds off from the record set just two weeks ago at the Colonial Relays.
