WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team will continue its conference slate when it hosts No. 11 James Madison at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The contest will be W&M's Hair Havoc game to support the
HEADstrong Foundation, which offers financial, residential and emotional support to families affected by cancer.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M currently owns a 4-9 record and is off to a 0-3 start in conference play. The Tribe leads the Colonial Athletic Association in ground balls per game (20.0), caused turnovers per game (9.1) and saves per game (10.9), while it ranks second in assists per game (4.9) and third in draw controls per game (14.1). The Tribe's ground balls average ranks eighth nationally.
Individually, senior
Belle Martire ranks second in the league in points per game (4.0), third in goals per game (2.7) and sixth in assists per game (1.2). Defensively, freshman goalie
Elise Palmer leads the CAA in saves per game (10.6), while junior
Caroline Donovan is tied for fifth in caused turnovers per game (1.2).
A Look at the Dukes
Ranked 11th nationally and currently on a seven-game winning streak, James Madison enters Saturday's game with a 10-4 record overall and a 3-0 mark in conference play. The Dukes boast wins against four nationally-ranked opponents, highlighted by a 13-8 victory at then-No. 3 Maryland. Isabella Peterson leads JMU offensively and ranks first in the CAA in goals per game (4.0) and points per game (4.8), while Katie Checkosky leads the league in assists (2.1). Rachel Matey ranks first in the conference with 5.4 draw controls per game, while Mairead Durkin's 2.6 caused turnovers per game leads the CAA.

W&M-JMU All-Time Series
JMU owns a 36-34-1 edge in the all-time series. After winning five consecutive games against JMU from 2005-09, the Tribe has lost the last 14 meetings.
Last Time vs. JMU
W&M fell at No. 25 James Madison, 21-8, on April 23, 2021. Although W&M got on the scoreboard first with a goal by
Lauren Russell, JMU responded with 10 unanswered goals and held the Tribe scoreless for a span of more than 21 minutes. W&M utilized a 4-1 run that spanned both halves to narrow the margin to 13-6 with 24:45 remaining, but the Dukes closed the game by scoring eight of the final 10 goals to secure the conference victory.
Belle Martire scored a team-high three goals, while Russell found the back of the cages twice.
Last Time Out
W&M was edged at Delaware, 13-11, last Saturday. W&M owned a 6-5 advantage at halftime, but UD scored the first six goals following intermission to pull away for the win.
Grace Ahonen and
Serena Jacobs both posted hat tricks, while

CAA Weekly Honors
Five W&M standouts have combined to garner six weekly honors from the CAA this season. Senior
Lauren Russell (Feb. 14) and junior
Sarah Cipolla (Feb. 28) were honored as the league's player of the week, while freshmen

Ainsley Huizenga (Feb. 21) and
Sam Van Gieson (March. 21) were named rookie of the week.

A number of W&M standouts have moved into, or are closing in on, school single-season top 10 lists this spring.
Caroline Hertzberg ranks sixth in draw controls (49), while
Sarah Cipolla is tied for ninth (44).
Belle Martire's 52 points is just six shy of the 10th, while she needs just nine more goals and seven more assists to break into the top 10.
Goalie
Elise Palmer (138) needs just 19 more saves to tie for 10th.
Among W&M's All-Time Best
One of the most productive attackers in school history,
Belle Martire currently among the top 10 in school history in career goals (148) and points (181). She currently ranks third in goals and sixth in points.
Starr Howard also ranks among the Tribe's best in draw controls and ranks tied for seventh all-time with 109.
