Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C.- The College of Charleston defeated William & Mary 7-2 Friday night in South Carolina. The Tribe committed five errors in the contest and surrendered three unearned runs.
Ben Williamson had a pair of hits and knocked in a runner for the Green and Gold and freshman pitcher
Mike Weidinger tossed a pair of clean innings in the defeat.
Charleston struck early, scoring a pair of unearned runs in the opening frame. In the second, the Cougars once again got to Tribe starter
Zach Tsakounis for a run on two hits. Tsakounis gave up one earned run and struck out four over 3.0 innings.
The score remained 3-0 until the top of the seventh when
David Hogarth reached on an error,
Joe Delossantos singled, and
Nate Goranson walked to load the bases with no outs.
Tyler Solomon lifted a sac fly to right to plate Hogarth, and Williamson singled in Delossantos to cut the deficit to one.
Tribe reliever
Tom Mayer struck out the side in the seventh, and
Jack Cone would reach on an error with one out to start the William & Mary eighth, but the Tribe could not push a run across. Charleston took advantage of three hits and an error to plate four in the eight to put the game out of reach.
