WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary baseball heads to Charleston this weekend for a battle for first place with the Cougars. The Tribe and College of Charleston both enter the weekend atop the league standings with a 7-2 mark in conference play. The three-game set begins Friday at 6:00 p.m. and continues Saturday and Sunday with afternoon games.
The Tribe has been dominant in every facet of the game through nine league games, leading the CAA in batting average and ERA. In conference play, the Green and Gold is hitting .299 as a team and is second in the CAA with 66 runs scored through nine games.
The Tribe leads the CAA with a 2.93 ERA and has a league best .196 batting average against. Of the teams that have played nine games, the Tribe has surrendered the fewest amount of hits, runs, and earned runs.
A trio of William & Mary bats enter the weekend red hot after an impressive past four ballgames.
Jack Cone's batting average has jumped 55 points in the last four games. Cone has knocked nine hits over that span with four coming last Friday and a three hit performance on Tuesday afternoon. Cone has scored five times and knocked in four over that span.
Cole Ragone had a strong game Tuesday knocking out a pair of two-run homers in the 11-5 win. The senior is second in the league in slugging and second in OPS. Ragone's 10 doubles are sixth best in the CAA and he ranks fifth in the league in homers. Cole has multiple hits and multiple runs scored in three of the last four games.
Perhaps no one in the league enters the weekend hotter than Tribe junior
Joe Delossantos. Delossantos has homered in three of his past four games and has been on an offensive tear lately. The outfielder has knocked in 10 runs over his last four games and has had three games with three runs batted in. Delossantos has scored six runs over that time touching the plate at least once in each of the past four games.
On the hill, William & Mary has seen contributions from a wide range of arms leading to the team's 12-3 record in the past 15 games.
Carter Lovasz has had a phenomenal freshman campaign tossing 28.2 innings with just a 2.51 ERA. Over eight outings, the righty has struck out 23 men and allowed just seven walks to go with a sub 1.00 WHIP.
Jacob Haney has been outstanding over six outings allowing just one earned run over 12.2 innings for a 0.71 ERA. Over his past three games, Haney has allowed zero earned runs with 10 strikeouts vs. three walks to earn a save and a win.
Randy Prosperi has come on strong for the Tribe and is second on the team with 10 appearances out of the pen this season. Prosperi has a save to go with a 2.45 ERA, walking just two men with 11 strikeouts. In his last five outings, the senior has not allowed an earned run over 9.1 innings.
