WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - William & Mary baseball heads to Boston to continue CAA play this weekend. The Tribe will meet Northeastern for a three-game tilt beginning Friday afternoon. It will be the first meeting between the two conference foes since 2019 as there was no conference slate in 2020 and the teams did not see each other on the CAA schedule last season.
The Green and Gold are 2-1 early in CAA play after taking two of three from UNCW last weekend, while Northeastern is looking for its first win in the league after opening conference play at Charleston. The preseason CAA favorite Huskies are 13-11-1 with nine of those games coming against power five competition.
Third baseman
Cole Ragone has been one of the hottest players in the nation and is the reigning CAA Player of the Week. Ragone hit .389 and had five extra base hits last week including a trio of solo homers. On Tuesday the senior swatted a pair of doubles in a three hit effort. Ragone leads the CAA in slugging and is fourth in the league in batting average. Ragone enters the weekend riding a season-high six game hitting streak.
Two-way man
Jack Cone also had a memorable week crushing a pair of homers including a walk off winner Sunday afternoon to ensure the series win over UNCW for the Tribe. Cone is in the top eight in the CAA in runs driven in and is tied for the team lead with a pair of wins on the hill. Cone threw 4.0 innings without surrendering an earned run on Sunday giving up just two hits and striking out three men.
Another big bat in the Tribe lineup has been that of senior outfielder
Matt Thomas. The right fielder had seven hits last week and drove in seven runs. Thomas is tied for the league lead with six homers on the year and is sixth with 22 runs driven in.
A pair of lefties have been the Tribe's most used and most reliable arms out of the pen this season.
Matt Howat leads the team with nine appearances and has been solid allowing just one run over his last 7.2 innings.
Adam Fischer has seen action in eight games and has not allowed a run since February 22. The sophomore has a 2.70 ERA and has struck out 17 over 10.0 innings.
