WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After back-to-back road games last week, the William & Mary lacrosse team will return to Martin Family Stadium when it hosts Longwood for its You Belong Game on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
The contest will celebrate

A Look at the Tribe
After earning a 20-15 win at Campbell in its last outing, W&M currently owns a 3-5 record. The Tribe leads the Colonial Athletic Association in ground balls per game (20.4), caused turnovers per game (8.3), assists per game (4.9) and saves per game (12.4). Individually, senior
Belle Martire leads the league in points per game (4.3) and ranks second in goals per game (3.0) and sixth in assists per game (1.3). Junior
Sarah Cipolla has also come up big and ranks third in draw controls per game (4.8) and fourth in ground balls per game (2.3), while freshman goalie
Elise Palmer leads the CAA in saves per game (11.9) – a figure that ranks seventh nationally.
A Look at the Lancers
Longwood enters Wednesday's matchup with a 3-4 record and has won two of its last three games. All of the Lancers' contests – both wins at losses – have come by wide margins of at least seven goals. Haley Moomau leads the team with 24 points (13g, 11a), while Emily Cate Smith (10g, 9a), Claire Libby (13g, 2a) and Lauren Cerretani (12g, 3a) have also provided offensive production. Cerretani has also totaled team highs in draw controls (33) and ground balls (14).

W&M-Longwood All-Time Series
W&M leads the all-time series against Longwood, 19-2, and has won the last five meetings.
Last Meeting vs. Longwood
W&M cruised to a 22-16 victory at Longwood last season. The Tribe utilized a balanced attack as 11 different players found the back of the cage. Although W&M trailed 8-7 with less than seven minutes remaining in the opening half, it scored six of the next seven goals to close the stanza. The Tribe utilized a 5-1 run to start the second half to build an 18-10 advantage and maintained at least a seven-goal cushion during the remainder of the contest.
Belle Martire led W&M with seven point (5g, 2a), eight draw controls and three ground balls.
Versus the Big South
W&M owns a 24-4 all-time record versus teams currently in the Big South. W&M controls the all-time series against Longwood (19-2), Gardner-Webb (2-0) and Campbell (2-0), while it is tied with Winthrop (1-1) and lost its only matchup versus Radford (0-1). The Tribe has never played Mercer, Presbyterian, Wofford, High Point or Furman.
Last Time Out
W&M earned a convincing 20-15 win at Campbell last Saturday. After jumping out to an early lead with a 5-0 run in the opening quarter, W&M put the game out of reach by scoring the first four goals of the third stanza to build a 15-7 advantage. Campbell closed the contest with a 5-2 run but was unable to get any closer than the final margin.
Belle Martire led the Tribe with nine points (3g, 6a), while freshman
Sam Van Gieson posted five goals. Martire's six assists equaled a single-game school record, while her nine points ranks tied for third at W&M.
Caroline Hertzberg posted a career-high nine draw controls, which tied for the third best total in school history, while goalie
Elise Palmer's career-best 19 saves also ranks tied for third at W&M.
CAA Weekly Honors
Five W&M standouts have garnered weekly honors from the CAA this season. Senior
Lauren Russell (Feb. 14) and junior
Sarah Cipolla (Feb. 28) were honored as the league's player of the week, while freshmen
Serena Jacobs (Feb. 14),
Ainsley Huizenga (Feb. 21) and
Sam Van Gieson (March. 21) were named rookie of the week.
Among W&M's All-Time Best
One of the most productive attackers in school history,
Belle Martire currently among the top 10 in school history in career goals (136) and points (163). She currently ranks third in goals and tied for seventh in points.
Starr Howard also ranks among the Tribe's best in draw controls and ranks eighth all-time with 107.
