RICHMOND, Va. – After posting a pair of impressive performances in the William & Mary lacrosse team's contests at Coastal Carolina and Campbell, freshman
Sam Van Gieson was
selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.
The honor marks the third time this season in which a W&M standout has garnered the distinction, as
Serena Jacobs and
Ainsley Huizenga also earned the accolade.
Van Gieson finished the week with nine points (8g, 1a), a draw control and a caused turnover. Her best performance came in W&M's 20-15 win at Campbell when she posted career highs in points (6), goals (5) and assists (1).
The Severna Park, Md., native also recorded her first career hat trick at CCU with a draw control and a caused turnover.
The Tribe will return to action when it hosts Longwood at Martin Family Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m. The contest will be W&M's
