Explosive Ninth Pushes Tribe to Sweep of George Mason

FAIRFAX, VA.- Trailing from the first inning, William & Mary broke out for six runs in the ninth inning to defeat George Mason 9-5 Sunday afternoon to complete a sweep of the Patriots. Matt Thomas had the go-ahead RBI single in the ninth and scored twice in the game. Cole Ragone and Ben Williamson both had four hits in the game and Nate Goranson led the way with three driven in. 
 
Jack Cone allowed just two hits in 3.0 innings of work, and Tom Mayer followed zero runs allowed and three strikeouts over three innings. Rojo Prarie finished the game off earning his first win of the season. 
 
Mason got on the board early as a leadoff single and a pair of wild pitches would plate a runner in the first. Cone would settle in and retire the Patriots in second and third. 
 
The Tribe would even the score in the top half of the fourth as Williamson ripped a one out single into center and Cone followed with a double to right center. Williamson would come home on a Goranson RBI grounder to tie the game. 
 
The game would not remain tied for long as Mason would plate a pair of runs on three hits in the bottom half of the fourth. William & Mary would  get a run back in the sixth as Ragone doubled and later came home on a Cone sac fly making it 3-2. 
 
George Mason would score one run on a pair of hits in the seventh to extend the lead to 4-2. In the Tribe half of the eighth, Thomas reached on a single and Ragone and Williamson followed with hits to give William & Mary a run, but they would both be stranded as Mason kept a 4-3 lead. 
 
The Tribe's big ninth would begin with Joe Delossantos legging out an infield hit. Phil Conti would reach on an error and Delossantos would score on Trotta's RBI grounder to tie the game. Conti would reach home, giving the Tribe the lead on a Thomas single. Ragone and Williamson would follow with hits and Cone would be hit by a pitch loading the bases for Goranson. The sophomore catcher rifled a double off the wall to score a pair, and Cone would come in on a wild pitch for the ninth run. 
 
George Mason would get a run back in the ninth, but Prarie shut the door to give William & Mary a 9-5 win and a series sweep. 
 
Up Next: The next game for the Tribe will be a Tuesday afternoon trip to Durham to take on Duke.
