Box Score 2 DAVIDSON, N.C.- William & Mary dropped a pair of games to Davidson 11-4, and 3-1 Tuesday afternoon. Both contests were seven-inning games. Matt Thomas and Jack Cone both homered for the Tribe in the losing efforts.
In game one, Davidson jumped on the Tribe early as a one-out walk would eventually extend the inning to Ryan Wilson who hit a full-count fastball over the field in left-center to give the Wildcats a 2-0 first inning lead.
The Tribe's first offensive threat would come in the third as Tyler Solomon swatted a one-out double down the left field line, but Davidson would strand a pair of William & Mary runners to keep McRae's team off the board.
Tribe starter Rojo Prarie would strike out five in his two innings of work, but leave the game trailing 2-0 after the second. In the third, Davidson broke open the game plating five men on as many hits to give the home team a 7-0 edge.
David Hogarth would be hit by a pitch to lead off the fourth, and Jack Cone would send a missile over the wall in right-center to put the Tribe on the board. Max Winters would also get hit by a pitch and Joe Delossantos walked before both came in to score on a Luca Danos double making it 7-4.
Davidson would earn much of the lead back as walks would once again haunt the Tribe pitching staff in the fourth. A pair of free passes would give way to a three-run homer to make it a six-run game. The Wildcats would score another run in the fifth, cruising to an 11-4 game one win.
Tom Mayer was a force in his first career start, striking out five allowing zero runs in three innings of work in game two. The Tribe would threaten in each of the first two innings, but could not break through against the home team.
In the second, Davidson would load the bases with one out, when a terrific defensive play from the Tribe would keep the Wildcats off the board. Mayer induced a fly to center which would be caught by Cone, the runners would tag and Cone would nail the runner at third before the run could score to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
Tyler Solomon's lead off single would put pressure on the Wildcats once again, but the Tribe would strang a pair in the third.
Davidson would break the tie on Williams' second homer of the afternoon to lead off the fourth, but Randy Prosperi would retire the next six batters. With no one one in the Tribe half of the sixth, Matt Thomas would hammer his fifth homer of the year over the wall in left to tie the game at 1-1.
The tie would be short lived as Davidson scored twice on one and a Tribe error in the sixth. Adam Fischer would come into the game with the bases loaded and no one out and strike out the three batters he faced to give the Tribe a chance, but despite two-out hits from Williamson and Cone, the Green and Gold could not force the tying run across, dropping the contest 3-1.
