WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After opening its season with a thrilling 14-13 win at Villanova on Saturday, the William & Mary lacrosse team will look for another victory when it plays at Richmond on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

A Look at the Tribe
W&M opened its season with an exciting 14-13 comeback victory at Villanova on Saturday. The Tribe rallied back from an 8-3 halftime deficit, as freshman Serena Jacobs scored the game-winner with just 2:17 on the clock. Freshman goalie Elise Palmer helped preserve the victory with multiple saves in the final minutes, as she finished her impressive collegiate debut with 16 stops, which ranks tied for the fifth-best performance in school history. Senior Lauren Russell was pivotal in the comeback, as she totaled four of her career-high six goals in the quarter.
 
A Look at the Spiders
Richmond opened its season with an 18-7 victory against Old Dominion on Saturday. Lindsey Frank led the Spiders with six points (3g, 3a), while Arden Tierney added five points (3g, 2a) as 11 different UR players scored. Richmond outshot the Monarchs (27-21) and held advantages in ground balls (14-8) and draw controls (16-12).

W&M-UR All-Time Series
W&M leads the all-time series against Richmond, 44-13-1. The series has been more competitive in recent years, however, as the Tribe posted a 36-1-1 record in the first 38 meetings.
 
Last Meeting vs. Richmond
W&M led No. 18/19 Richmond in the second half but was edged by the Spiders, 14-11, in its 2021 home opener at Busch Field. Kathleen Cozzi led the Tribe with three points (2g, 1a), while Belle Martire, Sarah Cipolla and Anne Milwicz recorded two goals apiece. Cipolla also added four draw controls and four ground balls. Defensively, Starr Howard and Courtney Vasquenza both totaled three caused turnovers and two ground balls apiece, while Howard also posted three draw controls.
 
Familiar Face
UR interim head coach Anne Harrington played four years at W&M as a midfielder and is a 2007 graduate.
 
Versus the Atlantic 10
W&M owns a 75-26-1 all-time record versus teams currently in the Atlantic 10. W&M controls the all-time series against Richmond (44-13-1), George Mason (18-9), Davidson (7-1), George Washington (3-2), St. Joseph's (1-0) and VCU (2-0), while it has a losing record versus Massachusetts (0-1).
 
CAA Weekly Honors
After helping lead W&M to an exciting season-opening victory at Villanova, senior Lauren Russell and freshman Serena Jacobs earned weekly awards by the CAA. Russell was selected as the league's player of the week, while Jacobs garnered rookie of the week accolades. Russell posted one of the greatest offensive performances in school history in the win, as she totaled career highs in points (8) and goals (6). Her point total ranks tied for seventh in W&M's record book, while her goal total ranks tied for 10th. Russell's six goals came on just seven shots. Jacobs also came up big in her collegiate debut and posted three goals, highlighted by the game-winner with 2:17 remaining, on just four shots.
 
Among W&M's All-Time Best
One of the most productive attackers in school history, Belle Martire enters her senior campaign ranked among the top 20 in school history in career goals (113) and points (132). She currently ranks tied for 14th in goals and tied for 17th in points.
 
Starr Howard also ranks among the Tribe's best in draw controls and ranks eighth all-time with 102. She needs seven more to move into a tie for seventh with Morgan Lang (2003-06), who finished her career with 109 DC.
 
Captains
W&M is led by a quintet of captains this season – Belle Martire, Sabrina Schrader, Grace Ahonen, Lauren Russell and Caroline Donovan. All five captains have distinguished themselves as outstanding leaders both on and off the field throughout their careers.
