LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Making her first-ever NCAA Southeast Regional Championship appearance on Friday morning, freshman Sofia Istnick led the charge for the William & Mary women's cross country team, placing 44th overall. Istnick crossed the finish line in 21:15.1 as the Tribe placed 14th with a team score of 447 points.
 
Top-ranked N.C. State led the stacked 32-team field at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park with 25 points, while No. 15 North Carolina (76) came in second and No. 12 Virginia (109) in third. Individually, N.C. State's Katelyn Tuohy won the race with a time of 19:49.1.
 
Istnick improved as the race went on. She was in the 60th position at the 3K split before moving up 10 spots over the next 1K and cracking the top-45 in the final stretch. Sophomore Arianna DeBoer was second for the Tribe, which came into the event ranked No. 14 in the Southeast Region, finishing 67th overall at 21:41.2. The finish was 15 spots higher than DeBoer's 2021 run.
 
Freshman Catherine Garrison finished in 100th place at 22:18.0, while sophomore Lucy Young wasn't far behind at 22:40.5 for a 119th-place finish. Juniors Annie Wicker and Emily Sell were 129th at 22:52.0 and 136th at 22:55.9, respectively. Freshman Jennifer Tsai rounded it out for W&M, placing 163rd in 23:29.1.
