LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The sophomore duo of
Jacob Jones and
Nate Jennings finished within steps of each other, placing in the top 80, as William & Mary men's cross country notched a 17
th-place showing at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships on Friday afternoon. Overall, five W&M harriers finished in the top 150 of the stacked race at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.
No. 12 North Carolina topped the 32-team field with 61 points, while No. 19 Virginia (83) finished second and No. 7 Wake Forest (88) came in third. Charlotte's Nickolas Scudder won the event with a time of 29:42.8.
Much as he's done all season, Jones set the tone for the Tribe, which entered the event ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region, finishing 77
th overall in a time of 31:28.7. He hit his stride down the stretch, improving three positions over each of the final two splits. Jennings placed an incredibly close second for W&M, crossing the finish line at 31:29.3 for 78
th place.
Freshman
Luke Ellwood, and graduate students
T.J. Corliss and
Evan Goodell all recorded top 150 finishes, taking 11
th, 140
th, and 143
rd, respectively. Ellwood covered the 10K course in 32:17.4, while Corliss and Goodell finished in 33:00.1 and 33:09.5.
Sophomore
Tyler Lipps finished in 163
rd at 33:43.9, and fellow sophomore
Sam Pritchard rounded it out for the Green and Gold, finishing 167
th overall at 33:48.0.
