Alexander Levengood was named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors University Division All-State First Team on Wednesday, the organization announced. Classmates
Nathan Messer and
Diba Nwegbo garnered spot on the All-State Second Team as well.
Levengood earned All-State First Team honors for the second-straight year. He also received All-CAA First Team and United Soccer Coaches All-Region Third Team honors in 2021. Levengood topped the Tribe with seven goals and 17 points. He notched a trio of game-winning goals, which ranks 49th nationally. Six of his seven goals came in CAA play, which tied for the league lead.
Nwegbo and Messer received All-State honors for the first time in 2021 and both were also named to the All-CAA Second Team.
Messer, like Levengood, ranked among the national leaders with three game-winning goals, including the Tribe's winner in an upset victory at NC State on Oct. 19. He also scored in OT game-winner at UNCW on Oct. 30. Messer finished the year with 12 points on four goals and four assists.
Nwegbo also recorded 12 points on four goals and four assists as a junior. He tallied the fastest goal in CAA history, scoring just 12 seconds into the Tribe's road game at Hofstra on Sept. 25. Nwegbo notched his first career game-winning against Drexel and finished 10th nationally in shot accuracy, putting 60% of his attempts on frame.
Virginia Tech's Mike Brizedine was named the VaSID State Coach of the Year after lead the Hokies to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth-straight season. The Hokies' Jacob Labovitz was named the state player of the Year after leading the VT with 22 points and nine goals. JMU's Tyler Clegg and Radford's Yoshiva Okawa were named the state defensive player of the year and rookie of the year.
VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an Academic All-State squad and an all-sports champion in both the University and College Divisions. Membership in VaSID is open to all media relations professionals working at a university or conference in the state of Virginia.
