Men’s Soccer Falls at George Mason, 3-1

FAIRFAX, Va. – The William & Mary men's soccer team fell at George Mason, 3-1, on Thursday evening.

Gabe Ruitenberg scored the Tribe's goal on a penalty kick in 57th minute, which narrowed the margin to 2-1.

However, Mason quickly answered in the 60th minute with a goal by Matias Jesus for the final score of the contest .

Jaime Godinho provided GMU's first two goals, coming late in the first half (36') and shortly after the intermission (49'). Yannick Mambo and Martim Sereno recorded assists on the first goal, while James Eliuda and Gabin Thomelier assisted on the second.

Mason outshot the Tribe, 12-6, which included a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.

W&M owned a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

In addition to his goal, Ruitenberg totaled a team-high three shots, two of which were on frame.

The contest was delayed by lightning for more than an hour in the 82nd minute.  

The Tribe will return to action when it opens its CAA slate at Elon on Sunday at 2 p.m. The contest will be broadcast on FloCollege.
