WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's soccer hits the road for the first time this season with a pair of matches, traveling to George Mason on Thursday before opening CAA play at Elon on Sunday.
The Tribe faces George Mason at 7 p.m. Thursday in Fairfax, Va., before traveling to Elon, N.C., for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Sunday. The CAA opener against the Phoenix will be streamed live on FloCollege.
THE TRIBE. William & Mary enters the week at 1-1 after earning its first victory of the season with a 4-1 win over Radford on Sunday night at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. The Tribe opened the campaign with a 6-5 setback to Longwood.
W&M has scored nine goals through its first two matches while averaging 16.5 shots per game. The Tribe has put 15 of its 33 attempts on goal and has seen six different players find the back of the net.
Sophomore Alex Garrison leads the Tribe with five points on two goals and an assist. Freshmen Aidan Gatchell and Brown Huffard have each added a goal and an assist for three points, while Damen Burney, Kai Feng and Evan Rabush have also found the back of the net. Gabe Ruitenberg leads W&M with two assists.
GARRISON GETS GOING. Garrison provided the offensive spark in Sunday's victory over Radford, scoring twice in the second half to help the Tribe pull away for the 4-1 win.
The sophomore scored the go-ahead goal early in the second half before adding another tally later in the period. Garrison also recorded an assist in the season opener against Longwood and enters Thursday with a team-best five points and the Tribe's lone game-winning goal.
ROOKIE RECOGNITION. Huffard was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Monday following a three-point performance against Radford.
The McLean, Va., native scored his first collegiate goal to give the Tribe a first-half lead before assisting on Garrison's game-winning tally in the second half. Through his first two collegiate matches, Huffard has a goal and an assist on two shots.
FRESHMEN MAKING AN IMPACT. Huffard isn't the only Tribe newcomer who has made an early impact.
Gatchell also recorded his first collegiate goal and assist in Sunday's victory over Radford. The freshman enters the week tied with Huffard for second on the team with three points.
SHARING THE WEALTH. William & Mary's nine goals through two matches have come from six different players, along with two opponent own goals.
Garrison leads the way with two goals, while Gatchell, Huffard, Burney, Feng and Rabush have each scored once. Nine of the Tribe's goals have been accompanied by nine assists, with eight different W&M players recording at least one helper.
THE PATRIOTS. George Mason enters Thursday at 0-1 after opening its season with a 2-0 setback at No. 13 Vermont last Thursday.
Thursday marks the Patriots' second match of the season and the Tribe's first contest away from Williamsburg.
TRIBE VS. PATRIOTS. William & Mary holds a 26-17-7 advantage in the all-time series against George Mason.
The former conference rivals played to a scoreless draw last season on Oct. 21 in Williamsburg. W&M's most recent victory in the series came on Sept. 27, 2022, when the Tribe earned a 3-0 win at home.
CAA PLAY BEGINS. William & Mary opens its CAA slate Sunday afternoon against defending conference champion Elon.
The Tribe was selected fifth in the CAA South Division preseason poll, while junior midfielder Thor Sigurjonsson earned Preseason All-CAA honorable mention recognition.
Sunday begins a nine-match conference schedule for W&M.
THE PHOENIX. Elon enters the week at 1-1. The Phoenix opened the season with a 3-0 victory over VMI on Aug. 20 before suffering a 5-3 setback at Old Dominion on Monday.
Elon captured the CAA championship last season and was selected to win the South Division in the league's preseason poll.
TRIBE VS. PHOENIX. William & Mary holds a 7-6-4 advantage in the all-time series against Elon.
The Phoenix earned a 1-0 victory over the Tribe in the most recent meeting on Nov. 1, 2025, in Elon. W&M's last victory in the series came on Oct. 9, 2019, when the Tribe earned a 2-1 overtime win in Williamsburg.
ON THE ROAD. After opening the season with consecutive home matches, William & Mary plays its first two road contests of 2026 this week.
Thursday's match at George Mason begins a stretch in which the Tribe plays five of its next six matches on the road.
WHAT'S NEXT. Following its two-match road swing, William & Mary returns to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday, Sept. 5, hosting College of Charleston in CAA action. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
