THINGS TO KNOW
- Julia Brown proved worthy of her preseason all-conference honors in the Tribe's opening weekend sweeps. The graduate student led the team with 21 kills over just six sets and was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Week. Brown hit over .400 in both matches and added six blocks dominating on both sides of the net. The Geneva, Ill. native was named to the all-tournament team in her home state.Â
Â
- Brown's partner in the middle Sabrina Malcolm was equally as dominant in the pair of sweeps last weekend. Malcolm was a defensive difference maker in Friday's win putting back nine blocks and equally efficient on offense leading the team with 11 kills. On Saturday she added five more kills and a pair of blocks in the three-set win. With 11 blocks in 12 sets Malcolm ranks 14th in the NCAA in blocks per set.Â
Â
- The Tribe does not have a storied history with either opponent this weekend. William & Mary have split their only two meetings with the Green and Gold coming out on top most recently with a 3-2 win in Williamsburg in 2010. The Tribe swept Akron 3-0 in 2019 in the only previous contest between the two programs. Anna Porter had 12 digs as a true freshman and Julia Brown had five kills and five blocks in the home win.Â
Â
- Friday night marked the first career start for Sydney Taylor. The junior who has battled through injuries put out eight kills, six digs, and four blocks in the two wins. A trio of Tribe freshmen saw game action for the first time last weekend as Anna Lucy Black, Bella Easton, and Amy Schwem all played a role in the two wins.Â
Â
- Schwem was instrumental in the Tribe's success sharing time at the setter position with junior Kate Van Houten. The freshman dished out 37 assists including 23 in Friday's win and added nine digs and a pair of service aces. Van Houten had 29 assists, six digs, and an ace in the two Tribe wins.
