Volleyball Welcomes Mike Brunsting As Assistant Coach

WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William and Mary Volleyball is excited to welcome assistant coach Mike Brunsting to the program as announced by head coach Tim Doyle Thursday morning. Brunsting comes to the Tribe from UCLA and will work with all position groups.

Brunsting brings seven years of pro volleyball experience and five years of coaching experience to the W&M program. Brunsting played seven years on the AVP Tour and racked up a top-10 finish 11 times on beach volleyball's most competitive circuit.

Prior to his days in the sand, Brunsting was a setter and outside hitter at UC San Diego. Brunsting's 1,759 assists still rank eighth in Triton history. He also added 71 service aces, 414 digs, 331 kills, and 122 blocks. Off the court he was named a three-time MPSF All-Academic Team selection.

Brunsting began coaching in 2016 when he became an assistant at Irvine Valley College. He would then coach high school and be the head coach for various age groups at Orange Coast Volleyball Club before joining as an assistant at UCLA. Brunsting helped the Bruins to a 14-6 conference record and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

From Coach Doyle:

From our very first conversation, Mike articulated how his personal philosophy aligned with the core virtues of our program – humble, hungry, and intentional. Mike's background proves he's a grinder, someone willing to learn and grow in order to be the best; you look at his college career and seven-year pro career on the AVP Tour and know he's sacrificed and worked for every bit of it. Throughout the interview process, Mike demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, investment in our roster, and unique ability to dissect the game congruent with the way our staff sees and trains the game. He'll not only serve as a phenomenal coach for our young women but a role model for doing things the right way. His emphasis on building meaningful relationships will benefit all areas of our program and bolster our reputation in the community. I'm excited to work alongside Mike as we continue the work of transforming the program into a perennial CAA contender.

We're fortunate to steal Mike from the West Coast and look forward to welcoming him to the Tribe Volleyball family!
