WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – Tribe baseball is back on the road this weekend heading to Harrisonburg for a regular season ending three game set with James Madison. The Green and Gold will face the Dukes in a doubleheader Saturday before completing the series Sunday afternoon.
The games are of vital importance as both WM (9-12) and JMU (4-8) are fighting for consideration to the CAA Tournament. Earlier in the season, the Tribe got the best of the Dukes winning two of three at Plumeri Park. William & Mary prevailed 6-3 and 1-0 after dropping the opener 9-5 to JMU in late April.
In the late April meetings between the Tribe and the Dukes it was the Green and Gold's starting pitching that propelled WM to the series win. Coach Murphy got wins out of a pair of lefties as
Justin Pearson allowed just one run over 6.0 innings and
Zach Tsakounis shutout JMU over 7.0 innings on his way to being named CAA Pitcher of the Week.
Despite the team's recent struggles, the starting pitching has been solid for the Tribe as
Wade Strain went 7.1 innings last weekend allowing just one run and both Pearson and Tsakounis provided the squad with quality starts. Tsakounis has allowed just four runs in his last three starts.
Matt McDermott was the offensive spark for the Tribe in the series with JMU earlier this season. McDermott had four hits including a double and a homer in the three-game set and knocked in four while scoring three times.
Ben Williamson was 4-10 in the series with three walks. Williamson also scored twice in the series and
Matt Thomas reached home three times.
Coach Murphy will look to see continued production from senior first baseman
Tyler Solomon. The big slugger hit safely in all three games last weekend and also reached twice via walk. Solomon homered and doubled in the series and drove in four runs.
Matt Thomas also turned the offense on for the Tribe in the final two games of last weekend's series plugging three hits including a pair of doubles.
