WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - For the first time since 2015, William & Mary hosts the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Tennis Championship this weekend, April 30-May 2, at the Millie West Tennis Facility.

The Tribe is the No. 3 seed in the event and opens play against No. 6 Charleston in the quarterfinals at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 30. The semifinals are set for Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m., with the championship to follow on Sunday at 1 p.m. In case of inclement weather, the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center will be used as a back-up site.
 
The 2021 CAA Tennis Championship will be closed to the general public. No spectators will be admitted on Thursday or Friday of the event. The semifinals on Saturday and championship on Sunday will be limited to team and player pass lists to keep the Millie West Tennis Facility within the limits of COVID-19 capacity. If matches are moved indoors due to inclement weather, the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center will be closed to all spectators.
 
News and Notes
- W&M sits at 7-5 on the year and is 1-1 in CAA play. The Tribe enters the CAA Tournament on a roll, having won five of its last six matches. Included in that stretch was an impressive 4-3 win over rival Old Dominion on April 10.
- The Tribe topped No. 5 seed JMU, 4-3, in Harrisonburg on March 27 after dropping a 5-2 decisions at Elon on March 7.
- The Tribe own a pair of impressive 4-3 wins this season in topping rival Old Dominion on April 14 and its season-opening win over eventual Southern Conference Champion ETSU. Senior Chen Ruo won in three-sets at No. 6 to clinch the victory over the Monarchs, while graduate student Brenden Volk claimed a three-set win at No. 2 in the win over the Buccaneers.
- W&M and Charleston meet for the first time since the Tribe knocked off the Cougars, 4-1 in the CAA Championship match in 2015. Charleston leads the series at 5-4 and the series is even in the league tournament at 1-1.
- The Tribe has captured the doubles point in eight of its 12 matches, including all seven of its wins. As a team, W&M is 6-5 at No. 1 doubles and 7-2 at No. 2.
- Graduate students Brenden Volk and Lev Kazakov earned CAA Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. Volk earned the honor on March 24 after going 2-0 at No.1 with comeback wins against Radford and Mary Washington. Kazakov garnered the honor after winning at No. 2 singles in the Tribe's 4-3 win at JMU.
- On April 14, Kazakov and senior Sebastian Quiros were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week. The duo upset the No. 43-ranked team in the country from Old Dominion at the No. 2 position to clinch the important doubles point.
 
CAA Tournament Notes
- W&M head coach Jeff Kader led W&M to upset wins over No. 62 Old Dominion and No. 38 VCU in the CAA Semifinals and Championship, respectively, as a senior in 2005. It marked the Tribe's first CAA title since 1990. Kader went a perfect 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 in doubles on his way to being named the most outstanding performer of the championship. He upset the No. 20-ranked player in the country from VCU and the No. 33-ranked player from ODU during the championship run.
- The Tribe is the No. 3 seed in the CAA Tournament for the 11th time overall and fifth in the last seven years. W&M is 15-9 all-time in the tournament as the No. 3 seed.
- In total, W&M has advanced to the championship match on 11 occasions (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018), winning league crowns in 2005 and 2015. In total, the Green and Gold has won four CAA titles with its championships in 1987 and 1990 coming via the team points format.
- Three of the last nine CAA Champions have been the No. 3 seed in the tournament, including the Tribe in 2015. In total, the No. 3 has advanced to the championship match on nine occasions, including six times since 2011.
