WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – For the second straight weekend, the Tribe will face CAA foe Elon, this time around hosting the Phoenix for three games at Plumeri Park. W&M will meet their conference rivals Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader before closing out the weekend Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. start time.
The Tribe will look to improve after dropping three straight games to Elon last weekend in North Carolina. With a 4-2 record, the Phoenix lead the South Division of the CAA. Elon enters the weekend having won five of their last six contests.
Despite the trio of losses, the Tribe had bright spots against the Phoenix last weekend.
Matt McDermott had four hits in the three games and knocked in four while scoring a run.
Matt Thomas homered, scored three runs, and knocked in a trio as the junior has nine hits over his last six games.
David Hogarth and Matt Trehub added homers for the Green and Gold in the weekend series.
On the hill a pair of Tribe lefties had success against the Phoenix as
Justin Pearson tossed 4.1 innings striking out a career-high seven last Saturday. The junior scattered four hits over the 4.1 innings backing up his 2.2 scoreless effort last Tuesday at Virginia. Sophomore
Matt Howat tossed 4.0 clean innings allowing just three hits and one walk last Sunday against Elon.
William & Mary will need to find a way to silence Elon slugger Alex Iadisernia who knocked in 12 runs last week on his way to CAA Player of the Week honors. The Tribe will also look to figure out Brad Edgington who won CAA Pitcher of the Week after tossing nine clean innings in Sunday's win over W&M.
Jack Cone has been a catalyst for the Tribe's offense all season long and notched his third triple of the season on Tuesday night. With a trio of three-baggers, Cone leads the CAA and ranks 11th nationally. The Tribe's center fielder ranks 10th in the conference with 27 hits, three spots behind sophomore
Ben Williamson who ranks seventh in the league in hits and third with 1.30 hits per game.
McDermott leads the Tribe with 11 extra-base hits and fourth in the CAA with seven doubles. The short stop has 25 hits and 12 RBI on the season. Thomas is seventh in the league with four homers and 10 of his 20 hits have gone for extra bases.
Senior righty
Wade Strain has tossed 194.2 innings in his Tribe career and needs just 5.1 innings this weekend to reach the 200 mark. The starter has tossed 41.0 innings this season, good for fifth in the CAA.
Ben Greenspon enters the weekend eighth in the league with a 3.47 ERA and has allowed just four extra-base hits in 23.1 innings pitched.
