W&M's Kimi Jones Named CAA Field Hockey Player of the Week

William & Mary junior goalkeeper Kimi Jones (Virginia Beach, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Field Hockey Player of the Week on Tuesday, after helping the Tribe to an undefeated week in conference play.  This is the second weekly award of the season for W&M, and the third for Jones, who was named Rookie of the Week twice back in 2018.

Jones earned the award after playing 90 stellar minutes last week, and leading W&M to a 2-0 mark.  On Wednesday, she picked up a season-high four saves and shutout Towson, 2-0, before coming back on Sunday and adding two more stops and holding No. 20 Delaware scoreless in the first half en route to another 2-0 victory.  That win over the Blue Hens wrapped up W&M's first unbeaten home season since 1980.  For the year, Jones now has a 2-1 record with a shutout.  She also carries a 1.67 GAA and 10 saves on a .667 save percentage, and now ranks seventh in school history with 24 wins, including three shutouts.  With Jones helping lead the way in the backfield, the Tribe defense has been playing outstanding over the last three games, all wins.  W&M has given up just one goal in those three games, and has a league-low 1.25 GAA overall on the season.  The Tribe defense is allowing a paltry 4.0 shots on-goal per game, the fewest ever since the stat began being kept.  W&M is allowing just three corners per game, the best in the CAA, and ranks second in the league in shots on-goal allowed per game and third in total shots allowed per game (9.75).

William & Mary wraps up the regular season this weekend, heading up to Boston to face Northeastern on Friday, April 16, at 1 p.m.  With a win, the Tribe can clinch the number two seed in the CAA Tournament the following weekend.  The game will be broadcast live for free on NUHuskies.com.
