WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary baseball returns to the diamond Wednesday evening for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch with Old Dominion at Plumeri Park. The Tribe is coming off a 1-2 weekend that featured a win at George Mason Saturday afternoon and a pair of home losses to Central Michigan on Sunday.
Old Dominion enters Wednesday night with an impressive 8-3 record after a 3-1 week that was highlighted by a road victory over nationally ranked ECU. The Monarchs also took two of three games from CAA preseason favorite Northeastern over the weekend.
The Wednesday night meeting between the in-state rivals will be the 44th contest between the two programs. The series history is as even as possible as Old Dominion holds a slight 22-21 edge in victories but the Tribe will look to expand their 12-6 advantage in Williamsburg.
Tyler Solomon has been a bright spot in the W&M batting order and will bring a four-game hitting streak into Wednesday night's ballgame. Solomon is joined by
Nic Britt and
Matt Thomas as Tribe players who have homered early in the 2021 season. Through six games,
Brian Murphy's squad has smacked 14 extra-base hits coming off the bats of 12 different batters.
David Hogarth has reached base safely in each of his five starts this season.
Sophomore
Matt Howat earned his first career save Saturday at George Mason working a pair of innings to close out the 4-1 win. Howat leads all Tribe pitchers with a 1.93 ERA and has struck out seven over 4.2 innings pitched.
Rojo Prarie has struck out four and walked just one batter in 3.0 innings of work out of the pen and transfer
Michael Zubovich worked 2.2 clean innings Sunday evening against Central Michigan.
Wednesday's matchup with ODU is one of just two mid-week games for the Tribe at Plumeri Park this season. Following the contest with the Monarchs the Green and Gold will head south for a weekend series with CAA rival College of Charleston.
