Box Score 2 WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary baseball dropped both legs of a doubleheader to Central Michigan Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park. The Tribe fell 12-1 and 7-3 in the pair of games.
In game one Central Michigan plated a run in the top half of the first inning and it would nearly be all the Chippewas would need as the Tribe was stifled by a trio of CMU pitchers. The road team would tack on five unearned runs in the third inning and one more in the fourth. Central Michigan put up a pair of runs in the sixth and one in the top of the ninth.
The Tribe would plate a run in the bottom of the ninth as
Hunter Hart was hit by a pitch and would later score on a wild pitch.
Matt McDermott had a pair of hits in the ballgame and relievers
Zach Tsakounis and
Rojo Prarie would each strikeout three batters in relief work.
In the second game the Tribe jumped on Central Michigan for a run in the first as
Ben Williamson doubled to leadoff the home half of the inning and would later come around on a wild pitch. The Chippewas answered scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to make it a 4-1 ballgame.
In the bottom half of the fifth
Mark Trotta hit a double down the left field line and scored on
Phil Conti's triple to right-center. Conti would come home as Williamson sent a deep sac fly to right cutting the deficit to just one run. Unfortunately, Central Michigan would plate a run in the sixth and two more in the ninth as the Tribe was unable to muster any further offense in the 7-3 defeat.
Justin Pearson was solid on the mound for the Tribe striking out four and allowing just one earned run over 3.1 innings and
Michael Zubovich put in a strong outing giving up zero runs over 2.2 innings of relief work. Eight of the team's nine starters had a hit in the game.
Next up for the Tribe is a midweek tilt Wednesday evening at Plumeri Park with Old Dominion. The Green and Gold will then head to South Carolina to open up CAA play at the College of Charleston.
