WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary baseball is back with a trio of games this weekend but they are not the three that were originally scheduled. The Tribe will visit George Mason for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch Saturday afternoon before hosting a doubleheader against Central Michigan beginning Sunday at noon. The pair of games against Central Michigan replace games scheduled against Richmond and VCU respectively.
Â
The Green and Gold will look to bounce back after a season-opening three-game sweep at the hands of Charlotte last weekend in North Carolina. George Mason will enter the weekend 0-2 while Central Michigan is 0-3 after dropping each of a three-game set at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.Â
Â
The Tribe bested George Mason in the teams' only meeting last season 13-3 at Plumeri Park. Matt McDermott, Cole Ragone, and Hunter Hart each had multiple RBIs in the game and Jacob Haney earned the win. William & Mary owns an all-time 9-8 advantage over the Patriots at Plumeri Park and is currently riding a four-game winning streak. Sunday will be the first ever meeting between the Tribe and Central Michigan.Â
Â
Freshman Nic Britt hit a three-run homer in his first collegiate plate appearance Sunday afternoon in the Tribe's loss at Charlotte. Tyler Solomon also homered in the ballgame giving the switch hitter four round-trippers in just 18 games in the Green and Gold.Â
Â
Coach Murphy will hope to see a repeat performance from Ben Greenspon as the sophomore combined with lefty Matt Howat and freshman Garrett Newsome to hold Charlotte to zero earned runs last Saturday night. The trio of underclassmen combined to toss 8.0 innings striking out six batters and allowing just two walks.Â
Sunday will open up a 17-game season for the Tribe at Plumeri Park, the fewest in any single year since the park opened. Entering the 22nd season calling Plumeri Park home, the Green and Gold have been dominant posting a 371-200 record (.650 winning percentage) with just one losing season over the past two decades at home. Coach Murphy owns a 99-60 (.623) mark since taking over the program prior to the 2014 season.Â
