WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head men's tennis coach
Jeff Kader announced the Tribe's 13-match schedule on Thursday. The slate includes six home matches, nine against opponents from the state of Virginia and two vs. CAA competition. Highlighting the 2021 schedule, the Green and Gold hosts the CAA Championship, April 30-May 2.
The Tribe kicks off the campaign with a home match against East Tennessee State on Sunday, Feb. 7, at 11 a.m. The teams meet for the first time since 2018, and the Green and Gold hosts the Buccaneers for the first time since 2010.
As part of the Tribe's nine matches against in-state competition, W&M will play home-and-home series with Liberty, Old Dominion and Richmond. Following its home opener, the Tribe travels to Liberty for the second time in three seasons on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. A day later, W&M heads to rival Old Dominion at 1 p.m.
The Green and Gold returns to Williamsburg for a season-long three-match homestand. W&M hosts Liberty for the second time in 2021 on Sunday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. The Tribe leads the all-time series with the Flames at 7-2.
W&M welcomes Morgan State to Williamsburg on Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. The Tribe meets the Bears for the first time since 2015 and is 5-0 against them. They wrap up the homestand against Richmond on Friday, March 5, at 5 p.m. The Tribe has won 19-straight against the Spiders.
The Green and Gold embarks on a two-match road trip to start a stretch with four of five away from home. The Tribe heads to Elon for its first CAA match of the season on Sunday, March 7, at 1:30 p.m. W&M holds a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series, including a 5-2 home win last season.
The Tribe faces Radford for the first time since 1993 when it travels to the Highlanders on March 19. The Green and Gold hold a 9-1 advantage in the all-time series.
W&M returns home to host Penn on Sunday, March 21, at 11 a.m. The teams meet for the seventh-straight year and each of the last three meetings have been decided by 4-3 scores. Penn holds a slim 5-4 advantage in the series.
The Tribe's final four matches are against in-state competition, including a trio of road tilts. W&M travels to James Madison on March 27 at 2 p.m. and VCU on April 7 at 1 p.m. The Green and Gold has won 24 of last 25 meetings with the Dukes, including 6-1 triumph in Williamsburg last season.
W&M closes out its regular-season home schedule with its second match of the year against Old Dominion on Saturday, April 10, at 1 p.m. The Tribe wraps up the regular season at Richmond on April 14.
For the first time since the 2015 season, W&M will host the 2021 CAA Championship at the Millie West Tennis Facility in Williamsburg. The event is set for April 30 through May 2.
As is the case with attendance at Kaplan Arena for men's and women's basketball, fans will not be permitted at tennis matches to start the 2021 spring season.
