WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team was edged by Cal, 382.95-379.75, in a virtual meet at Williamsburg Gymnastics on Wednesday afternoon.
Christian Marsh and
Ian Creelman highlighted the Tribe's individual performances by winning titles on rings and vault, respectively.
As a team, W&M defeated Cal on rings (63.9) and vault (69.7) with season highs in both events.
Event Recaps
Floor, 64.5 –
Zane Petras led the Tribe on floor with a third-place finish and equaled a career high with a 13.4.
Pommel Horse, 58.45 –
Cutter Fugett was W&M's top scorer on pommel horse and placed second with a 12.55.
Rings, 63.9 – W&M defeated Cal on rings with a season-high total, as Tribe gymnasts recorded the top three scores in the event. Marsh won the individual title with a season-high 13.2 and was followed by Petras (13.15) and
Andrew Lyubovsky (12.9), who both earned season bests.
Vault, 69.7 – A number of Tribe standouts performed well on vault en route to winning the event with a season-high score. Creelman won the event with a career-high 14.2, while Lyubovsky finished third with a season-high 14.0.
Sam Lee and
Aidan Cuy narrowly missed out on top-three finishes with a pair of 13.95's.
Parallel Bars, 62.15 – Lyubovsky placed second on parallel bars with a 12.85, while Marsh nearly finished among the top three with a 12.55.
High Bar, 61.05 – Lyubovsky (13.0) and
Ahmir Postell (12.75) placed second and third, respectively, on high bar.
All-Around – Cuy (73.75) and Lyubovsky (71.7) competed in all six events and placed second and third, respectively.
