W&M News and Notes
- Since Elon joined the CAA in 2014-15, the Tribe is 11-5 against the Phoenix. W&M is 7-2 at Elon, including three-straight wins in North Carolina. Last season, W&M topped Elon, 74-73, at the Schar Center.

- Over the last five games, freshman Connor Kochera has been on a tear, producing four 20-point games and averaging 21.4 points per contest. In the Tribe's 75-74 win over Towson on Jan. 31, Kochera produced the only 30-point, 10-rebound double-double by a freshman in the country this season and in the CAA in 2020-21 with 30 points and 12 rebounds. He also became the seventh freshman in program history and first since 2001 to tally 30 points in a game.

- As the Tribe's lone scholarship senior, Luke Loewe has stepped into a starring role. In CAA play, he ranks seventh in the league in scoring at 16.1 points per game. Loewe leads the CAA and ranks 76th nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.2). He is also fourth in the league in minutes (35.8), fifth in free throw % (84.3) and steals (1.5) and seventh in assists (3.4). He scored a career-high 27 at Hofstra, one of his five 20-point games this season. Loewe also ranks 44th nationally in minutes played and 69th in free throw shooting.

- Kochera leads all CAA freshmen in scoring and ranks 14th overall in the league at 14.1. That number also ranks 14th nationally among freshmen. In CAA games, he is seventh in the league at 15.9 points per game.  His season average is the best for a Tribe freshman since John Lowenhaupt in 1975 and third highest overall.

- The Tribe ranks among the national leaders in free throw shooting and have been even better in CAA play. The Green and Gold ranks third in the CAA and 77th nationally at 73.9%, which is also the sixth-best percentage in school history. In CAA play, the Tribe has been even better at 76.1% at the charity stripe.

- On Feb. 1, Kochera became the first freshman to be named CAA Player of the Week since 2015 after he led the Tribe to a series sweep of Towson, averaging 26.5 points and seven rebounds per game in two games against the Tigers. A day later, he was selected as the CBS Sports/United States Basketball Writers Association National Freshman of the Week.

- Including Monday's contest, the Tribe will have played 11 of its 15 games in 2020-21 on the road. W&M is 5-5 on the road, which is tied for the most road wins in the CAA with Hofstra. Last season, the Tribe tied a school record with 10 road victories and is 15-12 in its two seasons under head coach Dane Fischer.

- In each of its last seven games and eight times this season, the Tribe has started three freshmen. In total, W&M rookies have comprised 50% (35-of-70) of the team's starts and 44.2% (1250-of-2825) of its minutes. According to KenPom.com, the Tribe is the 34th youngest team in the country in terms of experience (1.18). Prior to this season, the Tribe had started three freshmen in a game eight times since the 1989-90.

- The Tribe has attacked the offensive glass this season. W&M is averaging 10.6 offensive rebounds and posting an offensive rebounding % of 29.7. Those numbers rank fourth in the CAA, respectively.

- Junior Quinn Blair has been a force for the Tribe in CAA play, averaging 13 points and has scored in double figures in six of the eight games. He scored a career-high 19 points on Jan. 30 in a win at Towson. Blair leads the Tribe and ranks 10th in the CAA in rebounding at six per game. He is also 21st in the league in scoring at 11.5 points per game and 13th in free throw shooting (78.2%).

- Freshman Yuri Covington became the second Tribe player to be named CAA Rookie of the Week this season on Dec. 21. Following a 16-day lay-off, Covington helped the Tribe to a 2-1 week, averaging 12.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game. He had a career-high 16 points at George Washington, including 14 in the second half and OT. He joined Connor Kochera in earning CAA Rookie of the Week honors this season. On the year, Covington is second among CAA rookies in assists and third in scoring.

- After playing two years behind Nathan Knight, who is currently with the Atlanta Hawks, junior Mehkel Harvey has made an impact in the paint. The 6-9 forward picked up his first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds in the win at Hampton and recorded a career-high 16 at Hofstra. Harvey leads the CAA and ranks 18th nationally in blocked shots at 2.4 per game. He also ranks seventh in the CAA in offensive rebounding (2.3) and 10th in rebounds (6.0).

- On three occasions this season, the Tribe have rallied from a double-digit deficit. W&M had a school-record 19-point road rally at George Washington on Dec. 14. In CAA play, the Green and Gold has twice rallied from double-digit deficit at Drexel on Jan. 17 (10 points in the second half) and at Towson on Jan. 31 (11 points in the first half) to pick up wins.

- In his first season as a head coach, Dane Fischer received multiple Coach of the Year award, including VaSID State, CAA and NABC District 10 honors. He was also a finalist for a pair of National Coach of the Year awards, including the Hugh Durham Award Mid-Major Coach of the Year and the Joe B. Hall Award, which is presented annually to first-year D1 head coach. His 21 wins in 2019-20 were the second-most for a rookie head coach in the country last season.
