William & Mary took control in the third quarter and held on for a 65-58 win over Maryland Eastern Shore 65-58 in Princess Anne, Md., for its second consecutive win.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Riley Casey and Sydney Wagner gave the Tribe (3-2) a 14-point lead three minutes into the period. Casey finished with 16 points, her fourth consecutive game in double figures, and Sydney Wagner added nine on three 3-pointers.
"It was a satisfying road win against a good UMES team," W&M coach Ed Swanson said. "We made good runs offensively, and defensively, we did enough. We had close to five players in double figures, so we had pretty good balanced scoring.
"They're physical, and they have the ability to take people off the bounce. They did that again today with their rebounding prowess. We did just enough to get a real solid road win. Real pleased with it."
Freshman Dani McTeer finished with 12 points, 10 coming in the first half, and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Junior Bre Bellamy, who missed last week's win over George Mason, added her first career double-double with 11 points and a career-high 14 rebounds. Kate Sramac finished with eight points and seven assists.
In its first three games this season, UMES lost by 35 points at Saint Joseph's and blew out two Division II programs. Last Saturday, the Hawks led CAA co-favorite Drexel by two points going into the fourth quarter before losing 65-60.
"That grabbed my attention," Swanson said. "They gave Drexel fits on Saturday."
The Tribe's next game is Monday at home against Hampton University.
