Julia Brown Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate

OVERLAND PARK, KAN.- Tribe volleyball player Julia Brown has been selected as a candidate for the 2021 Senior CLASS Award as announced Thursday afternoon. The award recognizes a senior or graduate student who excels on and off the court displaying greatness in the classroom and the community.

Brown has been dominant on the floor over the past five seasons for the Tribe ranking second among all William & Mary in all-time blocks and fifth in career kills. The middle blocker earned First Team All-CAA honors last season and was named to the preseason all-conference team prior to the 2021 slate.

During her time at William & Mary, Brown has been nothing short of spectacular in the classroom. The Geneva, Ill. native graduated last May with a degree in Biology, earning a 3.87 GPA. She returned to campus this fall to pursue her MBA. Brown has been a Provost and Dean's List award recipient every semester since coming to Williamsburg in 2017.

A two-year team captain, Brown has shown tremendous leadership in Kaplan Arena, but her efforts have extended into the community. Julia has coordinated food and clothing drives in her native Illinois as well as Virginia. She has served as a youth volleyball coach and this past summer participated in Black Lives Matter Peaceful Protests.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
