Cone, Farrell, Hart, Raquet Earn All-State Honors

WILLIAMSBURG, VA- A quartet of Tribe baseball players earned VaSID All-State honors as announced by the organization Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Jack Cone led the way as the First-Team Utility Player selection, while Chris Farrell (Starting Pitcher) and Brandon Raquet (Outfielder) made their second consecutive appearance on the Second-Team, joined by first-time honoree, Hunter Hart (Designated Hitter).

Cone was the ultimate two-way player for the Tribe in 2020. He earned a 3-1 record in four outings as the Green and Gold's Sunday starting pitcher while posting a strong 2.86 ERA. The righty won three consecutive decisions to finish the season, tossing 6.0 innings in each start. In his 2020 home debut, Cone threw 6.0 innings allowing just three hits and zero earned runs in a sweep-clinching win over Fairleigh Dickinson. The next weekend, Georgetown fell victim to a career high seven strikeouts from the sophomore. He finished the shortened season with 28 strikeouts and just eight walks, tossing a team-high 22.0 innings.

When not on the hill, the Virginia native held down the leadoff spot in coach Murphy's lineup and patrolled centerfield. At the plate, Cone had five multi-hit ball games, the first of which came against nationally ranked Duke. In the home-opener against Fairleigh Dickinson, the center fielder swatted a pair of doubles and scored twice in the first of three games in which the speedster would score multiple runs. He posted a career-high three RBI in the second game against FDU and finished the season with a .326 batting average while playing perfect defense in the outfield.

Before 2020 was cut short, Chris Farrell was putting together one of the most impressive single seasons by a Tribe pitcher in school history. The Friday starter allowed just one run in four outings on his way to a 2-0 record. Farrell dazzled with a CAA-leading 0.42 ERA while holding the opposition to a .192 batting average against. The righty shutout perennial power ECU through 6.0 innings in the season-opener allowing just four hits to earn CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. In the home-opener, Farrell posted a career-high seven of his team-leading 19 strikeouts in a 12-3 Tribe win.

Brandon Raquet started all 17 games of the 2020 season in left field in route to becoming the Tribe's latest Academic All-American. Racquet finished the campaign tied for the NCAA-lead with four triples and led WM with four home runs. In addition, the senior led the CAA with 22 runs scored and 43 total bases while posting a .705 slugging percentage. The lefty scored multiple runs in seven games, had multiple hits in six games, and knocked in at least two runs in four contests. Racquet led the team with 11 extra-base hits on the season.

Hunter Hart was tabbed to the All-State team after a phenomenal start to his sophomore year. The designated hitter led all CAA hitters with a .417 batting average and was third in the league with a .500 on-base percentage. Despite being limited to just 12 games and 10 starts, Hart led the Tribe and finished second in the CAA with 17 RBI. The right handed slugger had at least one base hit in each of his 10 starts, finishing the season on a seven-game hitting streak. In addition, Hart knocked in at least one run in nine of his 10 starts and 10 of his 12 appearances overall, tying for the team lead with four multi-RBI games.

The 2020 season marks the second consecutive year that the Tribe lands at least four players on the All-State Team. Last season, Farrell and Raquet were joined by Matt Trehub and Bodie Sheehan. It is the sixth season that the Tribe has had at least four players make the All-State Team.
