Mila Saric's Nationally-Ranked Win Leads Women's Tennis Past Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Sophomore Mila Saric picked up a nationally-ranked win and in the process clinched William & Mary women's tennis's 4-2 win over Big Ten foe Maryland on Sunday afternoon.
 
After the Terps won the doubles point, the Tribe (6-5) won four of the five completed singles matches, including victories from Saric (No. 1), junior Vitoria Okuyama (No. 4), senior Charlotte Madson (No. 5) and freshman Elisa Van Meeteren (No. 6) to pull out the team triumph. 

How It Happened
- Maryland (8-5) opened the match by taking the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 posts.
- Senior Charlotte Madson and junior Vitoria Okuyama answered with singles wins to give the Tribe the lead. Madson dropped just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Zoe Kulkarni at No. 5. It marked Madson's sixth singles win of the season and third in dual-match action.  
- Okuyama gave the Tribe a 2-1 lead with a win at No. 4. She upended Vera Markovic, 6-2, 6-3, to improve to 11-8 overall and 4-1 on line four.
- After a Maryland win at No. 2, freshman Elisa Van Meeteren put the Tribe back in front 3-2 with a straight-sets win on line six. The Tribe rookie won matching 6-3 sets to down Chloe Hamlin for her 12th win of the year. Van Meeteren upped her mark to 6-0 at No. 6.
- Saric posted her second nationally-ranked win of the season to clinch the Tribe victory. She handed No. 90-ranked Ayana Akli her first loss of the dual-match season in straight-sets, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Saric won her second-straight at the top singles spot and improved to 14-7 overall and 7-4 in dual-match action.

The Tribe wraps up its four-match road swing at Delaware on Friday, March 13. The Green and Gold's first CAA match of the season starts at noon in Newark.
