WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary women's basketball team looks to match its season-high three-game winning streak as it closes a three-game road trip at UNCW on Sunday, Feb. 9. Tip time between the Tribe and the Seahawks is set for 2 p.m.
- Two original members of the CAA, the Tribe and Seahawks meet for the second time this year and the 72nd time in series history. W&M is holding a slight 36-35 advantage in the series, but the Seahawks have won the last two, including a 72-55 victory in Williamsburg earlier this season. Sophomore Eva Hodgson scored 14 points to lead the Tribe, while senior Victoria Reynolds finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.
- For the fourth time this season and for the second straight game, W&M hit the 80-point mark in its win over Charleston on Friday afternoon. It was the first time since that the Tribe scored 80 or more, and back-to-back games since Dec. 2 and Dec. 5, 2017, while it improved to 20-2 when reaching the mark under head coach Ed Swanson. The Green and Gold is first in the CAA and 82nd in the NCAA averaging 70.0 points per game this year.
- Sophomore Eva Hodgson has eclipsed the 30-point mark in the Tribe's last two games. She became just the ninth player in school history with multiple 30-point performances in the same season and is just the second player in school history with back-to-back 30 point games. Hodgson joins Taysha Pye as the only other woman in W&M lore to score two 30-point games in her first two years. Now with 10 20-point games, is tied for fourth in school history for 20 point games in a single-game.
- Furthermore, Hodgson has the Tribe's leading scorer in all but three games. After scoring the most points in the Division I era in a season opener (27), Hodgson then scored the most points in W&M's DI era when she scored career-high 34 points at Elon. She is averaging 20.5 points per game, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. She leads the conference with 20.0 points per game (10th in the NCAA), 55.3% from the field (31st in the NCAA), 44.4% from 3-point range (11th in the NCAA), and 92.6% (third in the NCAA). The sophomore has been in double-figures in 22 straight games, which is the longest streak in Division I school history, dating back to last year and has 10 20-point performances this year, including seven of the last 10 games.
- For the second time this season, sophomore Eva Hodgson was named the CAA Honorable Mention Player of the Week after scoring the most points by a player in the league this season when she scored a career-high 34 points against Elon on Friday night. Also for her efforts, she was tabbed the @NCAAWBB Starting Five team of the week on Wednesday. It was the Tribe's sixth weekly award as senior Victoria Reynolds was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 9 and freshman Bre Bellamy has been rookie of the week three times.
- This month, the William & Mary women's basketball team will be participating in the Play4Kay National Free Throw Challenge with all of their CAA conference mates. Fans can make a donation or a one-time pledge for each Tribe free throw over the month of February. More info is available on TribeAthletics.com.
- Another key to the Tribe's success this season is getting three players in double-figures. W&M has posted a perfect 11-0 mark when three players reach the double-figure plateau, including its last win at Charleston.
- For the ninth time in under head coach Ed Swanson W&M shot better than 55% in a contest when it shot 58% against Charleston in January. The Tribe's 58.3% field goal percentage at VCU, the season-high, ranks tied for seventh under Swanson and is the seventh-best in school history. For the season, the Tribe is shooting 44.5%, which is tops in the CAA and ranks 32nd nationally.
- Senior Victoria Reynolds has been turning it on since the George Washington game. She has been in double-figures in the 10 of the last 11 contests and is averaging 17.1 points per game during that stretch and has two double-doubles as well. A Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention selection, Reynolds is second on the team averaging 15.2 points per game (eighth in the CAA) and leads the team with 6.6 rebounds a night. She has been in double-figures in 55 career games and has scored 1,109 career points.
- Junior Bailey Eichner has enjoyed her enhanced role during her junior campaign and earned four straight starts. Earlier this season, she scored a career-high 11 points in the win at East Carolina, before adding a career-high nine rebounds at George Washington. The Cudahy, Wisc. is averaging 3.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks per game. More impressively, Eichner is averaging 12.6 rebounds per 40-minute game.
- W&M head coach Ed Swanson became the 69th head coach in Division I history to win his 500th career game against Hartford on Nov. 23, before becoming just the third W&M coach to win 100 career games with the Tribe against Charleston last month. To continue a milestone-driven season for Swanson, he was announced as an inductee to the Northeastern Conference Hall of Fame in late January. Now at 510 wins, Swanson ranks as the 33rd active head coach in the country in terms of wins, and with 104 wins as head coach of the Tribe, he is third all-time and is 43 away from all-time wins leader Debbie Taylor.
