Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, VA- West Virginia (6-4) bested William & Mary (3-7) 13-4 Saturday afternoon at Plumeri Park.
Justin Pearson picked up the loss for WM while Ryan Bergert picked up his second win of the season for West Virginia.
The Tribe found itself in a hole early as West Virginia scored five times on three hits in the top of the first inning. The Mountaineers would score another in the top of the six for a 6-0 advantage. But William & Mary would strike back in the bottom half of the second.
Brandon Raquet led off the Tribe's half of the second inning with a walk and scored on
Tyler Solomon's double to deep left-center.
Carlos Garrido would walk and
Ben Williamson would single to load the bases.
Cole Ragone's deep sac fly to right field would bring home Solomon to make it 6-2. Garrido would score on a fielder's choice and Williamson would come in on a
Matt McDermott RBI single into left-center to make it 6-4.
West Virginia would waste no time gaining further separation, plating a trio of runs in the third inning. Jake Haney would enter the ballgame in the fourth inning for the Tribe and work 3.2 innings allowing just one run and striking out five.
West Virginia would tighten its grip on the game with three more runs in the eighth inning.
Matt Thomas would single in the eighth to extend his on-base streak to nine ballgames, and
Jack Ryan worked a scoreless ninth inning in the loss.
The Tribe will wrap up the weekend with tomorrow's matinee with Georgetown. First pitch against the Hoyas is set for 1:00 pm. at Plumeri Park
