WILLIAMSBURG, VA- William & Mary baseball (3-5) is back in action this weekend hosting a trio of teams as part of the Central Virginia Classic at Plumeri Park. The Tribe will take on Wagner Friday, West Virginia Saturday, and finish the weekend with Georgetown Sunday afternoon in round-robin play.
The Green and Gold will look to stay hot at home after last weekend's sweep over FDU. W&M exploded for 37 runs on 37 hits in the three wins over the Knights. The Tribe is averaging 10.5 runs and 12.5 hits per game in their last four contests.
Senior
Brandon Raquet has been on a tear of late scoring nine runs in his last four games. Raquet homered last Friday against FDU and this Tuesday at Virginia and has three long-balls on the season. Over the last four games, the outfielder has hit .500 with eight hits, knocking in eight runs, slapping three triples, and posting four walks. Raquet enters the weekend tied for 13th nationally with 27 total bases.
Senior starting pitcher
Chris Farrell will look to stay one of the hottest pitchers in the country. The Friday starter has yet to allow a run in 11.0 innings of work. Farrell has allowed just one extra-base hit this season and has struck out 11 batters.
Randy Porsperi has headlined a strong Tribe bullpen with four strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .167 off the junior right-hander.
Rojo Prarie has been effective as well with a 2.84 ERA through 6.1 innings of work. Freshmen
Matt Howat and
Ben Greenspon have been strong options out of the pen both holding the opposition to a below .206 batting average. Howat has tossed a team-high 9.0 innings in relief and Greenspon has allowed just three hits in 4.2 innings of work.
W&M will open the weekend meeting Wagner (2-5) for the fifth time in team history. The Tribe owns a 3-1 lead all-time against the Seahawks with all four games having been played at Plumeri Park. They will then face West Virginia (5-3) looking to avenge a 2-1 home series loss to the Mountaineers a year ago. Finally, William & Mary will look to add to an impressive 19-2 all-time home mark against Georgetown on Sunday.
