RICHMOND, Va. – For the third-straight week, William & Mary senior
Brenden Volk and freshman
George Davis were named the Colonial Athletic Association Doubles Team of the Week. The Tribe tandem is a perfect 7-0 at the No. 1 spot and helped W&M to the valuable doubles point in the weekend sweep of Ivy League opponents Yale and Brown.
In the Tribe's 6-1 win over the Bulldogs, Volk and Davis outlasted Michael Sun and Arnav Dhingra in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (8), to clinch the doubles point for the second time this season. The pair topped Brown's Ching Lam and Roger Chou, 6-2, as W&M won the doubles point for the seventh-straight match to start the season on the way to a 4-2 win over the Bears.
The award is the fourth of the season for the Tribe as a team. Along with Volk and Davis's trio of doubles honors, junior
Finbar Talcott earned the CAA Singles Player of the Week honor on Jan. 29. The doubles award is the fifth of Volk's career, while Davis garnered his third accolade.
With its wins last week, W&M is off to its best start since the 2000 season at 6-1. The Tribe returns home for its second Colonial Athletic Association match of the season against Elon on Sunday, March 1. The match carries a 1 p.m. start time and could be played outdoor at the Millie West Tennis Facility or indoors at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center depending on the weather.
