Women's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker to No. 21 Wisconsin

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women's tennis captured the doubles point for the seventh time in eight matches, but No. 21-ranked Wisconsin rallied in singles to pull out a 4-2 match on Sunday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. The Tribe dropped to 5-3 on the year, while the Badgers improved to 8-1.

How It Happened
- All three doubles matches were decided by 7-5 score lines with the Tribe rallying to claim the point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 posts.
- After Wisconsin pulled out the No. 1 spot, the senior duo of Natalia Perry and Rosie Cheng evened things up with a win on line two. The Green and Gold tandem improved to 3-0 at No. 2 by winning the final two games for a 7-5 win over Ava Markham and Miruna Tudor.
- The initial point of the match came down to the No. 3 spot and for the second time this weekend the freshman pair of Raffaela Alhach and Elisa Van Meeteren clinched it. The duo rallied from a break-deficit at 4-2 against Wisconsin's Christina Zordani and Melissa Pick and won the five the final six games to secure the doubles point on Alhach's winner.
- Van Meeteren quickly extended the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win at No. 6. She dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Zordani. The Tribe rookie improved to 11-10 overall and 6-1 in dual-match action. Van Meeteren is 5-0 on line six.
- The Badgers responded with straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to pull even at two. The balance of the match came down three-set affairs at No. 1, No. 4 and No. 5.
- At No. 4, junior Vitoria Okuyama rallied to force a third set. After Charmaine Seah claimed the opening set, 6-1, Okuyama answered with a 6-4 win in the second. Seah pulled out a 6-3 win in the third to give Wisconsin the lead, 3-2.
- Senior Charlotte Madson and Tudor split 6-3 sets to start at the No. 5 post. With the third set even at four, the Wisconsin junior won the final two games to clinch the Badgers victory.
- At the top singles spot, Cheng and Antonela Stoica split the opening two sets by match 6-4 scores. The Tribe senior led 3-2 in the third when the match was abandoned with the team results decided.
