WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's gymnastics team posted its best score of the season en route to defeating Springfield, 397.55-387.75, in its home opener at Kaplan Arena on Sunday afternoon.
In addition to recording its best team score of the season and defeating Springfield in all six events, W&M earned season highs in four events – floor (66.35), pommel horse (65.6), rings (66.75) and parallel bars (67.95).
Highlighting the Tribe's individual performances was a quartet of gymnasts who claimed event titles –
Tomas Palma (floor, 14.0),
Spencer Schrandt (pommel horse, 13.55),
Andrew Lyubovsky (parallel bars, 14.45),
Connor Bowman (high bar, 12.85). Lyubovsky's outstanding effort on parallel bars ranks tied for second in W&M's record book.
Event Recaps
Floor, 66.35 – Palma (14.0, season high) and
Zane Petras (13.4, career high) claimed the top two spots on floor to help W&M register its best score of the season in the event.
Pommel Horse, 65.6 – W&M gymnasts claimed the top three spots on pommel horse – Schrandt (13.55, season high),
Nate Winneg (13.15, equaled career high) and
Christian Marsh (13.1) – to help the squad tally a season-high score in the event.
Rings, 66.75 – Marsh led W&M on rings and placed second with a career-high 13.6. Petras (13.5) and
Collin Lillie (13.3) also totaled career highs to help W&M record its season-best score in the event.
Vault, 69.25 – Lillie led W&M on vault and placed second with a 14.15, while
Tim O'Neill (14.0, season high) and Lyubovsky (13.95) also performed well.
Parallel Bars, 67.95 – Tribe gymnasts claimed four of the top five spots on parallel bars en route to earning a season high in the event. Lyubovsky's winning score of 14.45 ranks second in W&M's record book, while
Aidan Cuy (13.55) and Winneg (13.45) also came up big.
High Bar, 61.65 – W&M gymnasts also earned the top three scores on high bar, led by Bowman's career-high 12.85. Winneg finished second with a season-best 12.6, while Cuy placed third with a 12.4.
All-Around – Lyubovsky was the Tribe's lone all-arounder and placed second with a career-high 78.65, which ranks tied for sixth in W&M's record book.

W&M will return to action in two weeks when it competes in a dual meet at Army (March 7) and a tri-meet at Springfield (March 8).
