RICHMOND, Va. – W&M women's basketball sophomore Eva Hodgson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 10 the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Hodgson helped the Tribe to a 2-0 week as she averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game. On Friday, she became just the second player in school history to record back-to-back 30-point games as she finished with 30 points, five rebounds, five assists, a block and a steal in the win at Charleston. In the game, she set a school record going a perfect 16-for-16 from the free-throw line. On Sunday, she scored a game-high 23 points, including a 3-pointer that put the Tribe up for good. She added six rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Hodgson played all but one minute this weekend shooting 56% (15-of-27) from the floor, 30% (3-for-10) from 3-point range, and 87% (20-for-23) from the line.
The Rindge, N.H. native, currently leads the CAA in points per game (20.6), field goal percentage (56%) free-throw percentage (90.9%), and 3-point percentage (43.7%). She has been in double-figures in 23 straight games and has 11 20-point performances this season. Her 453 points this season and is just four points from moving into sole possession of 10th place in school history. She is on pace to shatter both W&M's DI and single-season point totals.
The award is Hodgson's fifth weekly award of her career as she has been honored as the CAA Rookie of the Week four times last season. She also picked up two Honorable Mention CAA Player of the Week Awards this year. W&M is up to seven weekly awards with Hodgson's three, senior Victoria Reynolds has a player of the week, and freshman Bre Bellamy has three CAA Rookie of the Weeks.
W&M returns home for the first time in two weeks for a pair of games this weekend as it hosts Northeastern on Friday, Feb. 14, before hosting Hofstra on Sunday, Feb. 16. Tip times are slated for 7 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
Friday's game is the annual Play4Kay game and fans that wear pink to the game will receive $2 admission. Fans can also purchase Tribe pink t-shirts for a minimum donation of $5 with all proceeds being donated to Here for the Girls. Sunday will be the annual Golden Game with the first 250 fans receiving a free gold t-shirt. The Tribe will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and there will be a free clinic before the game for girls ages K-8 grade.
