- W&M and UNCW meet for the 71st time and for the first time in the regular season on Friday night. The Tribe has a slight 36-34 lead in the all-time series, including a 22-12 advantage in Williamsburg. Last season, the teams split the season series with each team holding serve at home. Sophomore Eva Hodgson averaged 15.0 points per game while senior Victoria Reynolds averaged 13.5 points in the two games.
Â
- The Tribe scored a season-high 83 points in the win at Towson last weekend. It was the 17th time under head coach Ed Swanson that the Green and Gold has eclipsed the 80-point clip going 15-2 in those contests.
Â
- After not having a pair of players score, at least, 20 points in the same game and a season and a half, senior Victoria Reynolds and sophomore Eva Hodgson have done it in the last two contests. The duo each had 20 points at JMU before Reynolds scored 26 and Hodgson added 25 points in the win at Towson.
Â
- W&M freshman Bre Bellamy was named the CAA's Rookie of the Week for the third time after scoring five points, grabbing six rebounds, handing out four assists, two steals in a block in the comeback win at George Washington. The freshman is now just one behind the school record for rookie of the week awards set by current sophomore Eva Hodgson, the school's all-time leading scorer Kyra Kaylor and Dominique Lewis, who each have four.
Â
- The Tribe has also been honored by the CAA with four weekly awards and an honorable mention citation so far this season. Aside from Bellamy's three weekly honors, senior Victoria Reynolds was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 9, while sophomore Eva Hodgson earned honorable mention player of the week honors for the week of Nov. 25.
Â
- W&M's nine non-conference wins this season are tied for the second-most in program history. Only the 2016-17 team, which won 10 non-conference games, has more, while the nine is tied with 2017-18 squad. The best three non-conference seasons in school history have all come under head coach Ed Swanson.
Â
-For the eighth time in under head coach Ed Swanson, W&M shot better than 55% in a contest, including setting the school record of 64.3% last March against Northeastern. The Tribe's 58.3% field goal percentage at VCU, the season-high, ranks tied for seventh under Swanson and is the seventh-best in school history. For the season, the Tribe is shooting 44.8%, which is tops in the CAA and ranks 39th nationally.
Â
- Because of its strong field goal percentage, W&M has also been scoring the ball at a high clip. The Tribe has scored, at least, 70 points in eight of its 13 contests this year, and only less than 60 once. The Green and Gold is averaging 71.1 points per game this season, which is second in the CAA.
Â
- Following her CAA Rookie of the Year honor last season, sophomore Eva Hodgson has picked up where she left off and has been the Tribe's leading scorer in all but two games. After scoring the most points in the Division I era in a season opener (27), Hodgson reset her career-high with 29 points at Richmond. She is averaging 19.2 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. Hodgson's 19.2 points per game is good for third in the CAA and 27th nationally, while she is leading the conference and ranked 50th in the NCAA in field goal percentage at 55.1%. The sophomore has been in double-figures in 14 straight games dating back to last year and has five 20-point performances, including the last three games.
Â
- Starting with her third career double-double at ECU, senior Victoria Reynolds has been in double-figures in eight of the last 10 games. During the last five games, Reynolds is averaging 17.2 points and 7.2 rebounds a game. A Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention selection, Reynolds is second on the team averaging 14.3 points per game and leads the team with 5.8 rebounds a night. She has been in double-figures in 47 career games and needs 14 more points to become the 21st player in school history with 1,000 career points.
Â
- Freshman Bre Bellamy, who has won three CAA Rookie of the Weeks, became the third straight true freshman to earn an opening night start at Army in the opener. During coach Swanson's tenure with the Tribe, he has started at least one true freshman in five of the seven seasons he has been the coach. The rookie, who has gone on to start every game this season, has been in double-figures five times, including a career-high 16 points at Towson, and is averaging 6.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks per game.
Â
- Junior Bailey Eichner has enjoyed her enhanced role during her junior campaign and is off to a career start. Eichner first scored a career-high 11 points in the win at East Carolina, before adding a career-high nine rebounds at George Washington. Also against ODU, Eichner tied or set career-highs with three assists, three steals, and four blocks. The Cudahy, Wisc. native has been the first Tribe post player off of the bench in each contest, and in her new role is averaging 3.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 1.0 blocks per game.
Â
- W&M head coach Ed Swanson became the 69th head coach in Division I history to win his 500th career game against Hartford on Nov. 23. Now at 505 wins, Swanson ranks as the 33rd active head coach in the country in terms of wins. He is closing in on becoming just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 career games as he sits at 99 victories with the Tribe.
