W&M News and Notes
- The Tribe was named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division I Team of the Week on Monday. Last week, W&M won three road games in a six-day stretch to start CAA play. As part of its league start, the Green and Gold swept the league's northeast road trip of the first time with wins at Hofstra and Northeastern.

- W&M started 3-0 in CAA play for the fifth time in school history. The Tribe became the first program in the history of the CAA to start 3-0 with all three wins on the road. W&M has started 4-0 in CAA on three occasions.

- The three road wins last week brought W&M's total to seven on the year, which leads the country. It marked the 12th time in program history that Green and Gold picked up seven road wins.  The Tribe tied a school record with three-straight road wins to open the year, including snapping Wofford's 17-game home win streak, the fourth-longest in the country, on Nov. 12.

- W&M earned its first rankings in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 since 2016, coming in at No. 25 on Monday. The Tribe received votes in five of the first nine polls of the year before moving into the top 25.

- For a league-high third time this season, senior Nathan Knight was named the CAA Player of the Week on Monday. He averaged 21 points and 9.7 rebounds per game during the Tribe's three CAA road wins. He scored W&M's final nine points at Northeastern, including the game-winner with 1.1 seconds remaining. Knight, who earned CAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9, tied the program record of six career honors previously held by former All-American Marcus Thornton '15.

- Knight posted double-doubles in the wins at Hofstra and Northeastern and leads the country with 12 on the year. He is one of four players nationally averaging 20 points and nine rebounds per game. Knight ranks 24th nationally in rebounding (9.9) and 26th in scoring (20.1).

- Knight and Andy Van Vliet have been double trouble for Tribe opponents. They are the only teammates in the country averaging 15 points and nine rebounds per game. They are only the fourth teammates to do so since 1992-93. Knight and Van Vliet are also the only pair of teammates in the country with at least seven double-doubles apiece. Along with Knight leading the country, Van Vliet is 19th at seven double-doubles. They have both tallied a double-double in the same game five times.

- W&M's offense has been hitting on all cylinders with the start of CAA play. In all three league games the Tribe shot better than 50% from the field. In CAA games, the Tribe leads the league in field goal % (56.9), effective field goal % (63.4) and 2-point field goal % (67.3) along with ranking second in offensive efficiency (114.4), free throw % (82.8) and 3-point % (37.5). Overall, the Green and Gold ranks seventh nationally in effective field goal % (55.8), 21st in field goal % (48.2) and 60th in 3-point % (36.4).

- The Tribe turned it on defensively in the victory at Hofstra, holding the CAA's top scoring team to just 61 points and 34.3% shooting, including 4-of-25 from 3-point range. W&M is 7-0 this season with holding opponents to less than 70 points and 6-0 when foes shoot less than 40%. Over the last four years, the Tribe is 28-2 when teams scores less than 70 points and 22-2 when they shoot less than 40%.

- W&M head coach Dane Fischer was recently recognized by both ESPN and NCAA.com for the Tribe's success in the nonconference. NCAA.com writer Mike Lopresti ranked Fischer No. 8 on the list of first-year head coaches. ESPN's Jeff Borzello listed the Tribe head man among three coaches in his Mid-Major surprises as part of his first-year coaching scorecard.

- In 10 of its 16 games, the Tribe has outrebounded its opponent. W&M is 8-2 this season when it outrebounds its opponent and 40-17 over the last four seasons. The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 61st nationally in rebounding margin (+5.2). W&M ranks second in the CAA in defensive rebounding % (76.9) and defensive rebounds per game (29.3), which rank 32nd and 19th in the country, respectively.

Loewe doubled his previous career-high with 26 points in the win over Morehead State.

- After missing nine games due to injury, sophomore Thornton Scott returned to the Tribe lineup with the start of CAA play. In league games, Scott ranks second in the CAA in 3-point % (50.0) and assists, while coming in third in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6). W&M is 7-0 this season with Scott in the lineup.

- Knight was named to the mid-season watch list for the Lute Olsen National Player of the Year Award presented by CollegeInsider.com on Tuesday. He was also selected to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List by the USBWA on Dec. 6. For the second-straight year, Knight was one of 20 players nationally named to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award after being one of five finalists in 2019.

- Loewe turned in a pair of strong defensive performances in W&M's wins last week. He limited Hofstra's Desure Buie to 3-of-14 from the field, 1-of-7 from 3 and 10 points in 32 minutes. Buie, who is averaging 18.8 ppg, bookended the W&M game with 35 points at Towson (12/30) and a career-high 44 points vs. Elon (1/4). Loewe followed that by limiting Northeastern's Jordan Roland to 3-of-14 shooting, including 1-of-5 from 3-point range, and a season-low seven points in 30 minutes. Roland entered the game ranked seventh nationally at 22.2 points per game.
