RICHMOND, Va. – For the third time this season and on a school-record tying sixth occasion, William & Mary senior
Nathan Knight was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Knight posted double-doubles in each of the Tribe's road wins over Hofstra and Northeastern last week and shared the honor with Charleston's Grant Riller, who averaged 28.5 points per game in the Cougars' 2-0 stretch.
Earlier this season, Knight earned the league's player of the week in back-to-back weeks on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. His three honors in 2019-20 bring his career total to six, which tied former Tribe All-American Marcus Thornton '15 for the most in W&M history. In total, the Tribe has garnered four CAA Player of the Week honors after senior
Andy Van Vliet earned the distinction on Nov. 18.
Knight averaged 19 points, 11.5 rebounds and two assists per game while shooting 73.9% (17-of-23) from the floor in the Tribe's wins. With his double-doubles against the Pride and Huskies, the 6-10 center extended his national lead in double-doubles with 12 on the year.
In the Green and Gold's 88-61 victory at Hofstra on Thursday, Knight tied a school record and became just the 12th Tribe player to connect on seven or more field goals in a game without a miss. He notched 15 points, 12 rebounds and a season-high four assists against the Pride. Knight made 21-straight shots (14 field goals and seven free throws) between the second half at Elon on Dec. 30 and his first shot at Northeastern on Jan. 4.
Knight scored W&M's final nine points in the road win at Northeastern on Saturday, including the game-winning a strong driving lay-up with 1.1 seconds remaining. He posted his sixth 20-point, 10-rebound double-double of the season, finishing with game-highs of 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 11 rebounds. He was 2-of-5 from 3-point range against the Huskies.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native moved into seventh on the Tribe's career scoring list at Hofstra and into sixth on the program's rebounding list at Northeastern. He also scored his 1,800th career point against the Huskies.
The Tribe currently sits at 11-5 on the year and leads the country with seven road wins. W&M reeled off three-straight road wins to start the Colonial Athletic Association and is the first CAA team in league history to win its first three league games all on the road.
