Men's Basketball Wraps Up Three-Game CAA Road Trip at Northeastern

BOSTON – Winners of two-straight, William & Mary men's basketball closes out its three-game Colonial Athletic Association road swing at Northeastern on Saturday afternoon in a clash of league unbeatens. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. from Matthews Arena in Boston and the game will be streamed on FloHoops.

All Tribe home games and the remaining 16 CAA contests will be streamed on FloHoops. A FloHoops subscription is $12.50 per month or $95.88 per year ($7.99 per month) and provides access to 130 CAA men's basketball games, as well as special features.

Tribe fans can catch the men's basketball action over the William & Mary Sports Network with Jay Colley on the call. The Tide 92.3 FM is the flagship stations of the William & Mary Sports Network and the audio is also available over the Web for FREE via the Tune-In app.

W&M News and Notes
- The Tribe is 2-0 in Colonial Athletic Association play for the 13th time in program history and looks for the just the program's fifth 3-0 league start. W&M won its first two conference games on the road for the first time since 1982-83 when the Green and Gold went 9-0 in the ECAC South, which eventually became the CAA.
 
- With its victory at Hofstra, the Tribe picked up its nation-leading sixth road win.  W&M posted four nonconference road wins for the sixth time in program history. W&M tied a school record with three-straight road wins to open the year, including snapping Wofford's 17-game home win streak, the fourth-longest in the country, on Nov. 12.
 
- The game at Northeastern wraps up a three-game CAA-opening road trip. It marks the first time since joining the CAA, the Tribe will play its first three league games on the road. The last time W&M played three-straight road games to start conference play was in 1972-73 when it was part of the Southern Conference. 
 
- W&M's offense has been hitting on all cylinders with the start of CAA play. In league games, the Tribe leads the CAA in offensive efficiency (120.3), effective field goal % (64.3) and 2-point field goal % (69.6) along with ranking second in free throw % (82.8). Overall, the Green and Gold ranks 11th nationally in effective field goal % (55.8), 33rd in field goal % (47.8) and 67th in 3-point % (36.2).
 
- The Tribe turned it on defensively in the victory at Hofstra, holding the CAA's top scoring team to just 61 points and 34.3% shooting, including 4-of-25 from 3-point range and just 21.4% from the floor in the first half. W&M improved to 6-0 this season with holding opponents to less than 70 points and 6-0 when foes shoot less than 40%. Over the last four years, the Tribe is 27-2 when teams scores less than 70 points and 22-2 when they shoot less than 40%. 
 
- Seniors Nathan Knight and Andy Van Vliet have been double trouble for Tribe opponents. The duo ranks first and 13th nationally in double-doubles and are the only pair of teammates in the country with at least seven double-doubles apiece. Knight owns 11 in 15 games, while Van Vliet posted double-doubles in four of the last six games to bring his season total to seven. They have both tallied a double-double in the same game five times this season.
 
- Knight tied a W&M school record at Hofstra and became just the 12th Tribe player to connect on seven or more field goals in a game without a miss. Dating back to the end of the first half at Elon, Knight has made 13 consecutive field goal attempts and 20 straight shots, including a perfect 7-of-7 at the free throw line. Knight ranks 37th nationally in field goal % at 58.3%. Knight's 57.8 career field goal % ranks third in Tribe history and 31st among active DI players. This season, he ranks 29th nationally in rebounding and 31st in scoring.
 
- Knight (19.9) and Van Vliet (15.1) average 35 points per game between them. They are the only pair of teammates in the country to average at least 15 points and nine rebounds per game. Knight and Van Vliet have combined for more than 40 points on six occasions this season. 
 
- W&M head coach Dane Fischer was recently recognized by both ESPN and NCAA.com for the Tribe's success in the nonconference. NCAA.com writer Mike Lopresti ranked Fischer No. 8 on the list of first-year head coaches. ESPN's Jeff Borzello listed the Tribe head man among three coaches in his Mid-Major surprises as part of his first-year coaching scorecard. Fischer became just the third W&M head coach to start his career 4-0 and the first since Rube McCray in 1943-44. He is the first to win his first three road games.
 
- Knight and Van Vliet both rank among the national leaders in rebounding. Knight ranks second in the CAA and 29th nationally at 9.8 rebounds per game followed by Van Vliet in fourth in the league and 43rd in the country at 9.4 per contest. They rank first and second in the CAA in defensive rebounds and Knight comes in ninth nationally in the category, while Van Vliet is 12th.
 
- The Tribe won eight nonconference games for the 13th time in program history, which ranks seventh in program history. It marks the fourth time in the last 27 years that W&M won eight nonconference games. The last time the Tribe posted more was when it tallied 10 nonconference wins in 1982-83.
 
- Knight earned back-to-back CAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 2 and Dec. 9. Knight averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds in wins over ODU and at Fairfield. The previous week, he averaged 29 points and 11 rebounds to earn the honor. Knight ranks second in W&M history with five weekly honors, trailing only Marcus Thornton's six.
 
- In nine of its 15 games, the Tribe has outrebounded its opponent. W&M is 7-2 this season when it outrebounds its opponent and 39-17 over the last four seasons. The Tribe leads the CAA and ranks 69th nationally in rebounding margin (+4.9). W&M ranks second in the CAA in defensive rebounding % (76.7) and defensive rebounds per game (29.5), which rank 42nd and 20th in the country, respectively.
 
- Junior Luke Loewe is enjoying a breakout season, ranking among the national leaders in shooting. He ranks third in the CAA in 3-point % (45.2) and ranks fifth in field goal % (53.8). According to KenPom.com, the 6-4 guard is 32nd nationally in 3-point % against DI competition (48.7), 37th in effective field goal % (64.8) and 42nd in true shooting % (66.2). Loewe doubled his previous career-high with 26 points in the win over Morehead State. He ranks 22nd  in the CAA at 11.2 points per game.
 
- Knight added another notable accolade to his resume, being selected to the Oscar Robertson Trophy by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, on Dec. 6. Earlier this season, he was named to the watch lists for both the Lute Olson National Player of the Year Award and the Lou Henson Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, presented by CollegeInsider.com. For the second-straight year, Knight was one of 20 players nationally named to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year award after being one of five finalists in 2019.
