Four Baseball Student-Athletes Honored by VaSID

RICHMOND, Va. – Four William & Mary baseball players were honored by the Virginia Sports Information Directors the group announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior starting pitcher Bodie Sheehan headlined the awards as he was named VaSID First-Team All-State, while a trio of juniors – Chris Farrell, Brandon Raquet, and Matthew Trehub – were named to the all-state second-team.

Sheehan tossed a team-high 83.1 innings and posted a 2.26 ERA. He went 5-2, allowing 25 runs (23 earned) on 83 hits while striking out 56, and only walking 16. One of the Tribe's most consistent pitchers in school history, Sheehan ranks in the top-10 all-time in most games started, most innings pitched, most strikeouts, fewest walks allowed, wins, and most runners picked off. Previously, this season he has been named to the Third-Team All-CAA and the CAA All-Tournament team.

Farrell flourished as the Tribe's closer this season and earned second team all-state honors. He made 22 appearances, all in relief, and posted a 2.58 ERA. He had a 5-2 record, tossed 38.1 innings, and recorded six saves. He surrendered just 26 hits, 12 runs (11 earned), while he struck out 47 batters in just 38.1 innings. The Great Falls, Va. native has been both a starter and reliever during his Tribe tenure and has thrown 110.2 innings with 100 strikeouts.

Raquet, who burst onto the scene at the end of the year, also earned a second-team nod. The junior came on late and finished the season hitting .269 with 49 hits, six doubles, four triples, eight homers, and 31 RBI. The junior closed the regular season hitting .500 (14-for-28) with a triple, three homers, and 12 RBI across the last seven games to help the Tribe earn the bid to the tournament. This season he was named to the All-CAA Third-Team, two-time CAA Player of the Week, and Google Cloud/CoSIDA Academic All-District team.

A utility player, Trehub was the Tribe's final all-state honoree. He hit .282 with 42 hits, eight doubles, two triples, two homers, and 20 RBI. For his career, he has seen action in 120 games in three years with 14 doubles, two triples, four homers, and 44 RBI. He was previously named to the Third-Team All-CAA earlier this season.

The Tribe had a 17-game turnaround this season and finished third in both the CAA regular season and postseason. W&M won, at least, 30 games for the 11th time in program history. It is also the fifth time in the last seven seasons that the Tribe has surpassed the 30-win mark in a season.
