RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary baseball junior
Brandon Raquet was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week for the week of May 6 the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Raquet led the Tribe to a CAA series sweep over College of Charleston leading the team with a .583 (7-for-12) batting average with two homers, four RBI and four runs scored. On Friday, Raquet sparked the Tribe offense going 2-for-2, reaching base all four times, driving in three runs, and scoring another. On Saturday, Raquet added two more hits and scored the game-winning run on a double from sophomore
Matt McDermott. He saved his best game for last going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. Raquet tied the game with a solo shot in the ninth, before W&M walked off with the win in the 10th. This weekend he raised his batting average 38 points to .263.
It is the Boaslburg, Pa. native's third CAA weekly award as he was named CAA Rookie of the Week twice during his freshman season. The Tribe now has six CAA weekly awards as
Wade Strain has been named CAA Pitcher of the Week, McDermott earned a player of the week honor, and freshmen
Tristan Snyder and
Zach Tsakounis (twice) have been named CAA Rookie of the Week.
Raquet and the Tribe have eight days off before returning to action with its final non-conference game of the slate at Saint Joseph's on Tuesday, May 14, at 3 p.m.
