How It Happened
- Elon plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. With an out, Anthony Galason doubled to the right-centerfield wall, before Joe Satterfield walked and Cam Devanney reached on an error. The next batter, Ty Adcock singled to left before Nick Cicci walked to give the Phoenix an early 2-0 lead.
- A two-out rally in the top of the second extended the Phoenix advantage. Galason, again, sparked the rally with a single before Satterfield walked. Devanney, then, tripled to the right-centerfield wall to clear the bases.
- Elon tacked on three more in the top of the third inning. With one out, Matt Oldham, Adam Spurlin, and Jack Roberts walked to load the bases. Tyler Stanely was hit by a pitch to bring home the first run, before Galason singled to bring home two and make it 7-0.
- W&M jumped on the board with a homer in the home half of the fourth inning. Senior
Hunter Smith belted his CAA-leading 10th homer over the left-centerfield wall.
- The Phoenix added another run in the top of the fifth. Jarrett Pico led off the inning with a walk, before advancing to third on a pair of wild pitches. With two outs, Satterfield shot a single up the middle to bring home the run.
- Elon took advantage of a Tribe error to score its ninth run of the day. Cicci was hit by a pitch, before Oldham singled to right. However, the ball got away from the right fielder and allowed Cicci to score from first.
- Smith brought his second run in of the game in the home half of the sixth. Freshman
Jack Cone led off the inning with a single, moving to second on a wild pitch and third on a groundout. Smith then flew out to the right field wall, just missing his second homer, but it was enough to bring in the second run for the Tribe.
- The Phoenix scored two more in its half of the seventh. With an out, back-to-back walks to Galason and Satterfield and a balk put runners in scoring position. After a wild pitch scored Galason, an Adcock single extended the Elon lead to 11-2.
