Women's Tennis Returns to Action Hosting Delaware on Saturday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team returns from a 10-day hiatus to wrap up a three-match homestand against Colonial Athletic Association foe Delaware on Saturday, March 16. The contest carries an 11 a.m. start time from the Millie West Tennis Facility, weather permitting.

Scouting the Tribe
- For the second-straight week, the Tribe swept the CAA weekly awards. Junior Natalia Perry was named the league's player of the week for the second time in her career after a nationally-ranked win, while Perry and freshman Mila Saric took home their second doubles team of the week honor of the year as well.
- In its most recent match, the Tribe dropped a heartbreaker to ACC foe Virginia Tech, 5-2. A quartet of singles matches went to three sets. Perry and junior Charlotte Madson posted three-set wins at No. 1 and No. 5, but the Hokies pulled out tiebreaker third-set wins at No. 2 and No. 6 to clinch the team victory.
- Perry downed No. 101-ranked Natalie Novotna, who was an All-ACC selection in 2018, in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. She picked up her first career win at the top spot, third against a ranked foe, 11th overall on the year and 55th in her career.
- Madson rallied from a set deficit to drop Shene Disbergen avenging a loss from the fall season. The Tribe junior improved to 4-3 at the No. 5 post with her seventh win of the year.
- Saric and Perry earned their second CAA Doubles Team of the Week honor after a 6-3 win over Nika Kozar and Nina Sorkin at No. 2 in the dual match with Virginia Tech. They won for the fourth time in the last five matches to improve to 8-3 in dual-match competition
- Last week, Saric was named the CAA Player of the Week for the second time this season after clinching W&M's 4-2 win over Big Ten foe Maryland. She also earned the honor on Feb. 13.
- Senior Clara Tanielian and sophomore Vitoria Okuyama garnered doubles team of the week honors on Feb. 27 after clinching the initial point of the match against both the Terrapins and Memphis. The duo is 5-1 in dual-match play with four wins at No. 1.
- On the year, Saric leads the Tribe with a 12-8 singles mark, including an 8-3 dual-match ledger.
- W&M has captured the doubles point in eight of its 13 matches, including four of the last five contests.
- W&M is 1-0 in CAA play this season after a 5-2 win at Elon on Feb. 10. Overall since the first season of CAA tennis in 1986, the Tribe is 139-18 (.885) against league opponents. In matches with current CAA teams, the Tribe is 83-4 (.954) all-time and 62-3 (.954) with those teams as members of the league.
- Three of the Tribe's setbacks this season have come to top-50 opponents, including losses to current No. 15 Wake Forest, No. 24 Virginia and No. 33 Kansas State. In total, W&M played six major conference opponents, including a trio of ACC foes.
- W&M's remaining 2019 schedule includes three more matches against top-50 teams. The Tribe takes on No. 41 Rice on March 23 and No. 45 Princeton on March 24, both in New Jersey. The Green and Gold hosts current No. 26 Old Dominion on April 13.
- On Feb. 26, the trio of senior Lauren Goodman, junior Rosie Cheng and Saric joined a W&M-record 164 Provost Awards for 2018-19 school year. The Provost Awards, now in their 16th year, recognize athletes who have a cumulative GPA over 3.5 in their careers.
- Former Tribe women's tennis standout Megan Moulton-Levy '07 will be inducted into the W&M Athletics Hall of Fame on May 4. Megan Moulton was a six-time All-American and a four-time CAA Player of the Year during her career and won a national doubles championship in 2006.
