WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary men's tennis team splits its matches between the road and home this week. The Tribe wraps up a three-match road trip on Friday at George Washington before kicking off a season-long homestand on Sunday against East Carolina.
The match with the Colonials will be played in Sterling, Va., at the Trump National Golf Club at 1:30 p.m., while Sunday's home match against the Pirates is set for 12 p.m. at the

Scouting the Tribe
- W&M is coming off a 6-1 CAA setback at Elon on Sunday. Sophomore
Sebastian Quiros led the Tribe with a three-set win at the No. 2 spot.
- Quiros rallied from a set deficit to knock off Mario Paccini, who is a three-time All-CAA selection including first team picks in 2016 and 2018. Quiros leads W&M with 15 singles wins and four in dual-match play.
- Prior to the loss at Elon, W&M dropped a pair of nailbiters to then-No. 23 Penn and at Virginia Tech. The Tribe captured the doubles point in both matches, and sophomore
Chen Ruo picked up singles wins in both contests. Sophomore
Finbar Talcott posted a win at No. 3 singles against the Quakers.
- In the match with the Hokies, four matches went to three sets with VT winning all four to rally past the Tribe, 5-2. W&M led the nationally-ranked Quakers, 3-2, but Penn won the final two matches in three sets to squeak out the 4-3 win.
- On March 6, junior
Brenden Volk and Ruo earned CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors after posting their second nationally-ranked victory of the year at No. 1. The duo knocked off No. 25-ranked Henrik Korsgaard and Alex Ribeiro of Virginia Tech at the top spot, 7-5.
- It marked the Tribe's second-straight weekly doubles award after senior
Tristan Bautil and freshman
Oren Vasser earned the honor on Feb. 27. The duo went 2-0 at No. 2 in helping W&M to the doubles point against Yale and Penn.
- Half of the Tribe's losses this season have come to teams currently in the national top 50, including No. 4 Virginia, No. 8 Florida, No. 39 Penn, No. 42 Penn State and No. 49 Princeton. Half the Tribe's 10 matches have also come against major conference opponents.
- Qurios and Talcott both posted nationally-ranked singles wins during the Tribe's opening three dual-matches of the season. Quiros knocked off No. 38-ranked Gianni Ross of Virginia in three-sets, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2. It was W&M's highest ranked dual-match singles win since 2010. Talcott topped No. 104-ranked Brandon Lancaster of Louisville, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2 on Jan. 27 for his first career ranked win.

Sebastian Quiros joined a W&M-record 164 Provost Awards for 2018-19 school year. The Provost Awards, now in their 16th year, recognize athletes who have a cumulative GPA over 3.5 in their careers.
Scouting George Washington
- The Colonials sit at 3-7 on the year after dropping its last three matches in Florida. GW fell at No. 48 Florida Atlantic, 7-0, on Saturday before dropping a 5-2 decision at FGCU on Sunday and a 6-1 contest at South Florida to close out the trip on Monday.
- George Washington has already faced one CAA team, falling to Drexel, 4-3, on Feb. 22.
- The Colonials are 2-0 in A-10 play thanks to wins over La Salle and Duquesne.
- W&M and GW have one common opponent in Liberty. Both teams dropped 6-1 decisions at the Flames.
- Five Colonials players have tallied double-digit wins on the year led by Dennis Afansev's 14.
- Ben Barnett leads GW with a 5-4 dual-match mark at No. 3.
- Zeng, who is 12-12 overall, is 4-6 at the top two spots, including two wins at No. 1.
- George Washington has claimed the doubles point on five occasions this season.
- Zeng and Barnett are 3-3 at the top spot, while Afanasev and Ryan Navarro own a 5-3 ledger at No. 3.
Series History: W&M vs. George Washington
- The Tribe holds a 15-2 mark in the all-time series with George Washington and has won six straight against the Colonials.
- W&M downed GW, 5-2, in the last meeting during the 2017 season in Williamsburg.
Scouting ECU
- East Carolina enters the match with the Tribe at 11-3 on the year but have dropped two of its last three matches. The Pirates dropped their most recent contest in narrow 4-3 fashion at North Florida on March 6.
- The Tribe is the fourth Virginia school that ECU has faced this season. The Pirates owns wins over JMU (4-3), Mason (7-0), Richmond (4-3).
- W&M is the second of four CAA opponents for ECU. Along with their victory already over JMU, the Pirates travel to both Charleston and Elon as well.
- ECU has won the doubles point in nine of its 14 matches, including each of the last two. In singles, the Pirates are 57-19 (.750) as a team in dual-match play.
- In doubles, Wisse Jonker and Javier Renones are 7-3 overall, including a 3-0 mark at the top spot. Austin Allen and Diogo Marques have enjoyed success as well, racking up an 8-3 record, including a 5-0 mark on line two.
- Marques, a freshman, holds down the No. 1 singles post and owns a 5-4 record at the top. He is 17-10 overall.
- Vlad Anghel has tallied a 14-10 overall record, including a 9-5 mark at top two spots. He is 7-3 at No. 2.
- Jonker and Renones have been dominant at No. 3 and No. 4 singles for ECU. Jonker is tied for a team lead with 17 singles wins, including an 11-3 dual-match mark primarily at No. 3. Renones is undefeated at 10-0 primarily playing at No. 4 in dual-match play to boost his overall record to 16-7.
Series History: W&M vs. East Carolina
- The Tribe leads the all-time series with East Carolina at 22-4 and has won 14 straight dating back to 1995.
- W&M and ECU meet for the third-straight season and the second time in the last three in Williamsburg.
- The Tribe is 12-2 all-time against the Pirates in Williamsburg, including a 6-1 victory in 2017.
- Last season, W&M downed ECU, 4-3, in Greenville. The Green and Gold captured the doubles point against the Pirates.
Sebastian Quiros clinched the Tribe victory with a win at No. 5 singles, while
Brenden Volk added a win at the No. 6 spot.
