Belle Martire Honored as CAA Lax Rookie of the Week

After posting tremendous performances in the William & Mary lacrosse team's pair of games last week, freshman standout Belle Martire has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Week.

Martire finished the week with a team-high eight points (7g, 1) to go with five draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Additionally, she posted a .538 shooting percentage.

Martire's best performance came in the Tribe's 13-5 victory at Longwood when she totaled a career-high seven points (6g, 1a), as her six goals tied for the seventh-best single-game effort in school history. The Houston, Texas native also provided two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover in the win.

Versus Richmond, Martire scored on her only shot attempt and posted a team-high four draw controls with a caused turnover.

One of the CAA's top freshmen this season, Martire currently leads the Tribe with 17 goals and ranks fourth in the conference with 2.83 goals per game. Additionally, she ranks tied for seventh in the league with 3.0 points per game.

The Tribe will continue its stretch of five consecutive road games when it plays at Davidson on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
