Vitoria Okuyama (No. 6) to down Big Ten foe Maryland, 4-2, for its second-straight win.
How It Happened
- The Tribe captured the doubles point with wins at the top two spots. Junior
Natalia Perry and Saric won their third straight, sweeping the Maryland duo of Kate Yemelyanenka and Saya Usui, 6-0, at the No. 2 position. The Tribe tandem improved to 7-2 in dual-match play and 2-0 on line two.
- Senior
Clara Tanielian and Okuyama clinched the doubles point for the second time in three matches with a 6-4 win over Eva Alexandrova and Millie Stretton at the top spot. The Tribe duo ran its season ledger to 4-0, including a 3-0 mark at No. 1.
- Goodman won her third match in a row to extend the lead to 2-0. She downed Arnelle Sullivan, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot. Goodman upped her season ledger to 9-7 and her dual-match mark to 5-3.
- The Terrapins (2-6) pulled even at two with narrow wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles.
- Okuyama countered with a close straight-sets win on line six. She topped Zoe Kulkarni, 6-4, 7-5, for her first dual-match win of the season.
- The final two matches at No. 2 and No. 3 went three sets. After splitting the first two sets with Anastasiia Gevel at the third spot, Saric clinched the victory by blanking the Maryland sophomore, 6-0, in the decisive third set. It marked Saric's third-straight win as she improved her team-best record to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in dual-match competition.
- At No. 2, Tanielian rallied from a set deficit to force a third with a 7-5 win in the second over Stretton. The Tribe senior led 2-1 in the third set when the match was abandoned with the team result decided.
