WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After wrapping up a three-match road swing earlier this week, the William & Mary women's tennis team opens a stretch with five of its next six at home. The Tribe hosts a pair of matches this weekend beginning with Penn on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. W&M wraps up the weekend with George Washington on Sunday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
Fans can watch all the Tribe tennis action at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center via PlaySight. Scouting the Tribe
- The Tribe is 2-6 on the year following a 4-0 setback at No. 14-ranked Virginia on Tuesday. The Cavaliers marked the Tribe's third loss to a nationally-ranked opponent this season as W&M suffered setbacks at No. 33 Wake Forest, 6-1, and to No. 50 Kansas State, 4-1, at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
- W&M's remaining 2019 schedule includes three more matches against top-50 teams. The Tribe travels to No. 49 Princeton on March 24 after taking on No. 45 Rice the day prior to New Jersey. The Green and Gold hosts current No. 19 Old Dominion on April 13.
- Freshman
Mila Saric was named the CAA Player of the Week on Feb. 13 after picking up a pair of wins during the week. She won in come-from-behind three-set fashion at No. 5 against Wake Forest before posting a straight-sets victory at Elon. Saric leads W&M with a 4-2 dual-match record.
- It marked the second weekly award of the year for W&M after Saric and junior
Natalia Perry were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week after starting the year 4-0.
- Last week, the Tribe split its matches. After dropping a 6-1 decision at ACC foe Wake Forest, W&M bounced back with a 5-2 CAA win over Elon on Feb. 10.
- After Elon claimed the doubles point, W&M won the top five singles positions to claim the win. Juniors

- Goodman clinched the team triumph with a straight-sets victory at No. 5. It marked her 60th career singles win.
- At No. 1 doubles against Elon, Tanielian and sophomore
Vitoria Okuyama posted a 6-3 win over Maria Paraja and Alex Koniaev, which earned All-CAA Second Team honors last season.
- With the win over Elon, W&M continued its dominance over CAA opponents. The Tribe improved to 139-18 (.885) against league competition, including a 62-3 (.954) record against current CAA teams. The Green and Gold is 4-0 against the Phoenix.
Scouting Penn
- The Quakers sit at 5-1 on the year after taking third at the ECAC Championship last week.
- Penn opened the year with a trio of home wins over Delaware (7-0), Drexel (6-1) and Marist (7-0).
- At the ECAC Championship, the Quakers opened with a 4-1 win over Harvard before falling to Columbia, 4-2. They closed out the event with a 4-0 win over Brown.
- Iuliia Bryzgalova, who is ranked No. 97 nationally in singles, headlines the Penn singles lineup at 19-2 on the year. She won the ITA Northeast Region Singles Championship during the fall and her only two losses came at the Oracle/ITA Fall National Championships. She is 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
- Marta Kowalska owns a 12-5 overall singles mark and a 4-1 ledger at the No. 2 spot. Ashley Zhu is 6-0 during the spring at No. 3 and No. 4 singles.
- In doubles Kowalska and Marija Curnic are 4-1 at No. 1, while Bryzgalova and OJ Singh are 5-0 at the second spot.
Series History: W&M vs. Penn
- W&M and Penn meet for the first time since 2013 and the seventh time overall.
- The Tribe holds a 6-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 5-0 mark in Williamsburg.
- In the most recent match-up, the Green and Gold topped the Quakers, 6-1, in Williamsburg.
Scouting George Washington
- George Washington enters the weekend having won three-straight matches. The Colonials sit at 3-1 on the year following a 4-3 win over Navy on Feb. 16. Among GW's victories was a 6-1 win over Big Ten foe Maryland on Feb. 2.
- George Washington hosts Drexel on Friday, before heading to Williamsburg on Sunday.
- Maria Siopacha is the Colonials top player, sitting at 3-1 at No. 1. A two-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, she was named the A-10's co-Most Outstanding Player last season.
- Both Sara Grubac and Katarin Marinkovikj are 3-1 in dual-match play at the No. 3 and No. 4 spots, respectively. Grubac leads GW with eight singles wins overall.
- In doubles, Siopacha and Melis Bayraktaroglu are 3-1 at the No. 1 spot and 5-6 overall. Grubac and Marinkovikj own a 3-1 doubles mark at No. 2.

- The Tribe and Colonials meet for the second-straight year in Williamsburg.
